ICYMI – From November 2025…Thatiana So, a Management major with minors in Accounting and Asian & Asian American Studies has been recognized by SEAL as the student leader of the month for her exceptional dedication to leadership and community at Providence College. Thatiana’s involvement spans an impressive range of programs. She serves as a coordinator for the Horizons peer-mentoring program, is a member of Friars Club, a Friar Foundations Program mentor, a Dream Coach for the Transitions pre-orientation program, a multicultural scholarship program scholar, and a Writing Center tutor at the Student Success Center.

Thatiana’s leadership is grounded in communication, mentorship, and advocacy. As a Horizons Coordinator, she works to support multicultural students as they navigate campus life while honoring their cultural identities and values. One of the highlights of her involvement has been serving as a Friar Foundations Program mentor, where she helps incoming students adjust to campus before the academic year begins and continues guiding them as they transition into their first year.

As a first-generation student, Thatiana has learned the importance of asking questions, embracing unfamiliar experiences, and seeking support. Her leadership style reflects the mentors who once empowered her: supportive, encouraging, and focused on helping students recognize their potential.

ICYMI - From October 2025…The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership is proud to recognize Katie Ditrano, a senior Biology and Health Policy & Management double major on the pre-med track, as Providence College’s Student Leader of the Month for her extraordinary commitment to service, community, and compassionate leadership.

From Glen Head, New York, Katie embodies what it means to be a values-driven, service-oriented leader at Providence College. Her involvement spans an impressive range of organizations and leadership roles, including Executive Secretary of Student Congress, Campus Ministry Executive Service Coordinator, Head Resident Assistant for East Apartments, President of Friars EMS, Fr. Phillip A. Smith Fellow for Service Abroad, Connections First-Year Retreat Director, Admissions Ambassador, Athletic Pep Band performer, Research Assistant in the Soto-Reyes Lab, and student representative on both the Academic Affairs Student Advisory Council and the Providence College Service Board. She is also a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national pre-health honor society.

In her role as Executive Secretary of Student Congress, Katie helps lead general meetings and supports the work of the four class years and seven committees. Katie believes her most meaningful leadership happens in the day-to-day moments. “The most impactful leadership comes through giving advice and offering support,” she shares. She strives to be someone her peers know they can rely on, approaching every interaction with empathy and genuine care.

A defining highlight of Katie’s leadership experience was serving as Director of the Connections First-Year Retreat. After attending as a freshman and leading for two years, she was honored to guide the retreat during her senior year. Working alongside a dedicated student leadership team, Katie helped create a weekend where new students could build friendships, form meaningful bonds with upperclassmen, and encounter their faith in new and transformative ways. “Looking around the room on Sunday afternoon and seeing lifelong friendships forming because of our team’s work filled me with so much gratitude,” she reflects.

ICYMI - From September 2025….The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership is proud to recognize Gavin Buttafuoco, a Class of 2026 Political Science major with minors in Theology and Catholic Humanities, as Providence College’s September Student Leader of the Month for his exceptional faith-driven leadership, service, and devotion to the College’s Catholic and Dominican mission.

From New Fairfield, Connecticut, Gavin exemplifies what it means to be an engaged and compassionate leader on campus. His involvement spans across numerous organizations and leadership roles, including President of Campus Ministry, Student Representative to the Board of Trustees Committee on Catholic and Dominican Mission, Friars Club member, Senior Admissions Fellow, FaithWorks Pre-Orientation Program Leader, WDOM Radio Show Host, and member of both Circolo Italiano and Catholic Relief Services.

As President of Campus Ministry, Gavin helps coordinate and support 25 unique ministries that foster spiritual growth and community among students. His approach to leadership is rooted in faith and humility. “True leadership is rooted in devotion to seeking truth found in Christ,” Gavin shares. “To lead is to serve.”

A highlight of Gavin’s time at Providence College has been his three years serving as a FaithWorks Pre-Orientation Leader, helping incoming freshmen feel welcome and supported as they begin their college journey. “Helping the incoming freshmen feel welcome during their transition into college life has been an honor,” he reflects.

Through his many leadership experiences, Gavin has come to appreciate the reciprocal nature of service. “I have so much to learn from those whom I serve,” he says. “I could not be a successful leader without the valuable input and feedback from my dedicated peers.”

First Day in Friartown 2026 🖤🤍

Over the last two weeks we welcomed over 1300 new students and 1700 family members to campus, and we had so much fun doing so. Many thanks to our 20 amazing Orientation Leaders, and to the countless PC staff & faculty who help make these summer orientation sessions happen. We’re so excited to welcome the Class of 2030 and our transfer students to the Friar Family!

If you’re interested in keeping the orientation fun going, consider signing up for a pre-orientation program! These optional programs take place in August, allow you to move onto campus early, form connections with your new peers, and have fun! Pre-orientation registration forms are due June 29th. Check your PC email for more information.
