The International Literacy Association and CAEP, has just awarded the M.Ed. in Reading program at RIC five years of accreditation, their highest honor. To quote a portion of the report: "This program provides strong experiences and assessments with regard to teaching, assessing, coaching, and leading school literacy programs." RIC candidates have a 100% pass rate on the Praxis Reading Specialist Test required by RIDE.

The Rhode Island Literacy Cohort is a group of literacy professionals (Reading Specialists, Literacy Coaches, Literacy Coordinators), teachers and administrators throughout the state that have a vested interest in making a real difference for Rhode Island students.

The purpose of the Rhode Island Literacy Cohort is to offer a network of support among literacy professionals as well as offer opportunities for professional growth. In addition, our objective is to offer our experience, expertise and voice to literacy initiatives within the state.

We meet 3-4 times per year and membership is always free.

The Rhode Island Literacy Cohort is a project started by Rhode Island Teacher of the Year, Tracy Lafreniere. You can check out their website at:
