A $17 billion Meta settlement is what it took to prove what parents already knew: Platforms are designed to exploit children's psychology for engagement, causing real harm.
When we built Luma Library, we intentionally decided to go the opposite direction. Instead of designing for maximum engagement, we designed for maximum learning. That meant making some of the following choices:
✓ Healthy, effective, autonomous learning: No addictive mechanics. No algorithms deciding what your child should learn. No disruptive ads.
✓ Real progress, not fake rewards: We promote comprehension, critical thinking and fluency while training active attention, not passive binge behavior and meaningless badges. Learners see genuine growth.
✓ Cultural connection over competition: Stories in diverse languages created by authors and artists around the world. Our portfolio reflects diverse cultures, allowing learners to connect with their homes wherever they are.
We are proving that there is a better way to design in education – especially when children are involved.
Fundamentally, any app designed to manipulate people into using it more without offering a real and meaningful benefit… it doesn’t work.
Conscious design. Healthy learning. Real outcomes.
That is the standard we are building to.
