QUOCK WALKER ACTIVATION- 7/29 at 7PM EST

My name is Dr. Roman Johnson (Roman Bolaji Johnson) and I go by Bolaji to those who know me by that name. I am the co-founder of The New England Hoodoo Society and a spiritual medium with the gift of healing (whole self), nurturing (emotional and psychological empowerment), and activation.

We are still in mourning for Nolan Wells and all the black children, women, and men taken by the hands of people who do not love them.

After thinking about this circumstance and the ways that maroonage has always a part of the struggle for black freedom in New England in particular, I wanted to call us to think about the idea of running away (giving up what we are used to) for a life we might be better suited for as black people.

When thinking about the desire for freedom and the ability to reimagine a world, I think about Quock Walker, who in April 1781, escaped his captor at 28 years old in Worcester County, Massachusetts.

On Wednesday, July 29th at 7pm, I will be collaborating with the New England Hoodoo Society to teach about Quock Walker, why he is important to the New England Hoodoo Tradition, and why I think he is a worthy candidate for ancestral veneration or Hoodoosainthood as coined, articulated, developed, and transmitted by the collective who include many community building Hoodoo workers such as Daisy October Daizy October🫀🕯🖤, Hess Love (Hess Love), Toya R. Smith (Toya R. Smith), Clarence Jackson (Clarence Jackson), and several communities and individuals online and offline pre-Internet Hoodoo. I also thank my co-founder Danielle Cole (Danielle Cole ) for answering the call and her consistency despite life’s curveballs. Additional thanks to Joy Tabernacle (Joy tabernacle KMT-Battle ) for their maroonage work and Shakeema Smalls (Shakeema Smalls ) for being a conversation partner of mine in Hoodoo and balancing life.
