A floor plan can check every box and still not be *well designed.* 👀

This is what my process looks like when I’m handed an existing plan:

I pull it apart, question everything, and look at how the home will actually function—not just whether all the requested rooms technically fit.

Flow, furniture placement, storage, sight lines, window placement, proportions, massing… the little decisions add up to a completely different experience.

The goal isn’t always more house. It’s a better house.

And sometimes… that takes a lot of red ink. ✍🏼😅

A great home starts with a great plan.

Okay, here’s the walkthrough I promised! 👀🏡

I wanted to use this one to show you a little more of my actual design process—not just the finished plans.

For me, designing a home is so much more than making rooms fit on a floor plan. I’m constantly thinking about how you’ll move through the space, what you’ll see from one room to the next, how everything will feel at full scale, and how all of those little decisions work together.

That’s why I love being able to jump between the 2D plans, the 3D model, and eventually…the real thing.

So come walk it with me and see how the lines on the page are translating into an actual home. ✏️ → 🏡

Want to see more of what goes into designing a home before it ever gets built? Follow along—I’ve got a lot more behind-the-scenes design content coming.

I also filmed a walkthrough while I was here talking through the floor plan, the spaces, and some of the thought behind the design — I’ll be sharing that reel later today, so keep an eye out! 👀

Framing will forever be my favorite part of the building process. 🤍

For weeks — sometimes months — I’ve been building these spaces in my head. Moving walls, reworking rooms, thinking through rooflines, sightlines, ceiling heights, and how everything flows together. And for so long, it only exists as lines on a screen and a vision in my head.

Then framing happens… and suddenly it’s REAL. 🥹

I can actually walk through the rooms I’ve been imagining, see the rooflines take shape, look through the windows, and watch all of those little design decisions come to life.

But my favorite part might be knowing my clients finally get to experience it too. After staring at plans and elevations for months, they get to walk through their future home and actually feel the spaces we’ve been creating together.

There are definitely prettier stages of construction coming 😂 but this one will always have my heart.

This is the moment a drawing starts becoming a home. 🤍

From unused space to a place to live. ✨

A little behind the scenes of turning an attic into living space—from standing in the existing space to drawing the demo plan, reworking the layout, and walking through the design in 3D.

I’m thinking through headroom, stairs, storage, how the rooms connect, and how the changes fit the exterior. The walkthrough helps me check and refine those decisions before construction begins.

Same plan. Different personality. 👀

One of my favorite things about residential design is seeing how much exterior materials can completely change the personality of a home—without changing the floor plan underneath.

So I gave The Cove and The Juniper three different exterior palettes each. Same architecture, same plan… very different vibes.

Now I need y’all to settle it. 😂

🏡 THE COVE: A, B, or C?

🏡 THE JUNIPER: A, B, or C?

Drop your combo in the comments — Cove B + Juniper C, Cove A + Juniper A, whatever you’re choosing.

And yes… I already have favorites. 👀

C Ave — complete. 🤍

What started as a closed-off 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home has been completely reimagined into a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home designed around better flow, more function, and the way this family actually lives.
The project included an addition, a completely redesigned floor plan, new kitchen, primary suite, laundry + entry space, rear porch, and thoughtful updates throughout—while still keeping the character that made the original home special.

There’s something especially rewarding about seeing a project go from existing conditions → drawings → construction → this.

A great home doesn’t always have to start from scratch. Sometimes, it just needs a better plan.

A renovation shouldn’t start with asking, “Where can we add more space?” It should start with asking, “Why isn’t the existing home working?”

Before I start moving walls, I look at the home as a whole—existing conditions, flow, circulation, privacy, daily routines, and how each space relates to the next.

Sometimes the answer is more square footage. Sometimes it’s simply making the square footage you already have work harder.

The goal isn’t just a prettier floor plan. It’s a home that feels intentional, functions naturally, and makes sense for the way you actually live.

Better homes begin with better plans.
Thinking about renovating or adding onto your home? Let’s design yours. 🤍

What if the square footage you need is already there? 👀

For this renovation, the goal wasn’t to expand the footprint—it was to figure out how to make an existing attic work harder.

That meant designing within the existing roof structure, working around vaulted ceilings below, accounting for roof slopes + usable headroom, maintaining attic storage, creating a functional stair connection, and incorporating code-compliant egress for the new bedrooms.

The dormers became part of the solution—but they weren’t treated as just a necessity. The front dormer was intentionally designed to improve the exterior elevation, adding balance, character + curb appeal while creating valuable space inside.

Projects like this are exactly why accurate as-built documentation matters. Before I can redesign an existing home, I need to understand what’s actually there—and then find the opportunities hiding within it.

Sometimes better design doesn’t mean building more.

It means making better use of what you already have. 🤍

Plan thoughtfully before you build.
