We are honored to celebrate the life of our namesake, Lorene Rogers, on her birthday.

🍎 Lorene Rogers was a wonderful example of an individual who loved learning and education. She was not only an educator, she was an innovator and ahead of her time.

🧪 After working as a teacher, she decided to go back to school and earned Masters and Doctoral degrees in biochemistry at the University of Texas, in Austin. She then served as a professor at both Sam Houston State and the University of Texas. In 1975 she accepted the position of President of the University of Texas and became the first woman to lead a major research university.
