The IEP Tamer

The IEP Tamer As an Advocate, my mission is to empower & support students with disabilities by championing their rights to equitable, inclusive, & individualized education.

I am committed to partnering with all stakeholders to ensure every student receives FAPE. Hello and welcome! My name is Tanya, and I’m a Special Education Advocate with over six years of experience supporting families and students with disabilities. I bring a deeply personal perspective to this work as the proud parent of a profoundly autistic son and a aunt to a remarkable nephew with ADHD and Tourette Syndrome. Their journeys have shaped my passion for advocacy, inclusion, and equitable education. I hold a Bachelor's degree and bring over 21 years of professional experience working with government laws and regulations, including specialized expertise in emergency and crisis management. This background gives me a strong foundation in navigating complex systems, understanding policy, and responding effectively under pressure—skills I now use to help families secure the supports their children need and deserve. Whether you're preparing for an IEP meeting, seeking clarity on school services, or facing challenges with communication and accommodations, I’m here to guide you with compassion, strategy, and unwavering commitment. Together, we’ll work to ensure your child’s rights are protected and their potential is fully supported.

Connection and co-regulation is so key. So many schools use PBIS for power and control and it doesn’t help our kiddos in the end …

When I was a little girl, I didn't speak until I was four years old. I remember the way adults looked at me—like I was broken, like my silence defined me. They didn't see the potential bubbling beneath, only the ways I failed to fit the mold. That early experience taught me something I carry into ...

Please consider contacting your US Representative and Senators regarding this campaign. Linda McMahon promised in her confirmation hearing she would not mess with IDEA. Earlier this year OCR was hit hard in cuts and now the key offices that ensure IDEA is implemented, provides the overall guidance and regulations and ensures states are following IDEA. Part of what they do is because states weren’t following it and why the enforcement piece was created. My son and other disabled students deserve FAPE.

ACTION ALERT: The Department of Education has nearly wiped out OSEP and RSA—offices essential to ensuring students with disabilities receive the services they’re guaranteed under IDEA. Congress must act NOW. Tell lawmakers: Restore OSEP. Protect IDEA.

Just because there is a correlation, doesn’t mean it’s the cause. It could just mean a population that tends to get circumcisions has a high genetic predisposition to autism.
