Long River Middle School was recently gifted an abundance of brand-new school supplies to help set our students up for a successful school year. We extend a Big Shout Out and Thank You to Wendy Hopkinson and Cher Michaud for reaching out and organizing this effort to make it all happen for Long River.

THANK YOU to our wonderful donors:

The Phoenix Club of Beacon Falls (formerly the Lioness Club)

Saint Michael’s Church

Beacon Falls Congregational Church

Local Beacon Falls businesses & generous community families

Thanks to these incredible contributions, we have received a full array of essential supplies, including:

Loose-leaf paper, binders, pocket folders, index cards, and post-it notes

Pencil pouches, pencils, pens, highlighters, colored pencils, glue sticks, and dry-erase markers

Backpacks, lunch boxes, and tissues

While the photo attached only captures a fraction of what was contributed, please know that every single item makes a meaningful difference for our school. We are immensely grateful for the continued support and care shown to our students.

Note for Parents & Families:

If your child is in need of any of these items to kick off the school year, please have them reach out to their school counselor once we return to school next week. We are here to ensure every student has what they need!

6th Grade Locker Orientation is always one of our favorite days of the year!

This morning, we welcomed 145 incoming 6th graders to Long River Middle School for a brief presentation, PTO information, gym uniform sizing, and—of course—some practice working those new locker combinations.

A special thank you to the amazing high school students who volunteered their time to give back and help our newest Wildcats. They assisted students with lockers, helped them navigate their schedules, and showed them where their classes will be located.

Reminder, if you were not able to make it this morning, the alternate date and time is August 24th from between 12:30pm and 1:30pm.

Celebrating Excellence at Long River Middle School!

We are incredibly proud to recognize Mr. Steve Ruhl, our outstanding 8th grade Social Studies teacher at Long River Middle School, for receiving the Teacher of the Year Award from The Society of the Cincinnati.

Founded by officers of the Continental Army following the American Revolution, The Society of the Cincinnati is one of the nation's oldest historical organizations. Its mission is to preserve and promote the history and ideals of the American Revolution while recognizing excellence in teaching this important period of American history.

This prestigious honor was presented during the Society's annual ceremony, attended by members from across the United States—including California, Washington, and many other states.

As part of this recognition, Mr. Ruhl has also been invited to participate in the Society's highly selective Institute for Teachers next summer, where he will conduct research and deepen his knowledge of the American Revolution alongside fellow educators from around the country. Only eight teachers nationwide were selected for this remarkable opportunity.

Mr. Ruhl's passion for history, commitment to authentic learning experiences, and dedication to his students are evident every day in his classroom. His enthusiasm inspires curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine appreciation for our nation's history.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Steve Ruhl on this well deserved national recognition. We are incredibly fortunate to have him representing Long River Middle School and Region 16.
