At my last art class, I got to paint with a very special, strong group of women who have fought cancer. As I was driving to the class, I was venting to God and asking for His advice about what to say. To be honest, I was having a super hard time focusing that day. I had something personal on my mind instead. No matter how hard I tried to focus and push the other thoughts out of the way, I couldn't.
An hour later, I arrived at the location and I started setting up. We met and mingled and started to paint. This class was different that most because it wasn't just a fun thing to do with some friends on a weekend. It was an Art Therapy class and I was expecting to provide a healing experience for these women. No pressure, right?
Well, long story short - they aren't the only ones who found peace during this workshop. As I was talking in front of the group I felt pushed from within to share something very vulnerable in order to create a "safe space" for these women to open up and really allow themselves to feel.
I shared a story about this photo.
A story I have never shared with anyone else.
A friend I was hiking with the day I snapped this picture, πππβπ‘ have an idea of why this photo makes my heart do all kinds of flips and tricks.
I am not going to share the story here on Facebook for everyone to read. The point of me posting this is that sometimes we have to just let it out. Share. Be vulnerable. And I can't promise you that doing so will always, every time, result in a pleasant outcome. I can't promise you that opening up will make you feel better. But sometimes it does. And sometimes when we pour our heart out, it encourages others to do the same.
God calls us into fellowship with one another. We were designed to love eachother and care for each other, more than ourselves. And how can anyone love or care for you, if your guard is up all the time? How can they get in?
Consider sharing your story, friends. I know when I shared mine, I was met with love and support and a tiny bit more freedom within.
