Addressing childhood hunger in Princeton by providing healthy supplemental food through community engagement, participation, and financial support.

In May 2013, the Princeton Human Services Commission began a program to bring awareness and help to the issue of “food insecurity” among our school-aged children. Almost 500 local children, 12% of the school population, qualify for free or subsidized school lunches during the week. But there is no help for them on the weekends. We would like to also take this moment to truly thank Ross Wishnick for his leadership and contributions over the 10+ years of SHUPP. Ross has dedicated many hours to support Princeton’s youth and families to ensure their food needs are met. From his rapid response to support families during the COVID-19 pandemic to building numerous pantries and garden beds across town, Ross’s leadership emphasizes the importance of commitment and compassion for his community. We look forward to his continued efforts as he will remain a valued member to the Executive Board. 💚🪴

Send Hunger Packing Princeton (SHUPP) is one of a number of local organizations addressing this and has been for nearly 15 years. Focusing on students and their families, SHUPP provides fresh produce every week for any student who makes a request, no questions asked.
