🏴‍☠️❤️ Meet Mr. Richard — the man who helps keep Mercer shining!
Mr. Richard is beginning his 6th year of experience in the school system, but he brings so much more to our Pirate family. With over 20 years of business ownership and professional experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge, a strong work ethic, and a servant’s heart to our school every single day.
As our Head Custodian, Mr. Richard does far more than take care of our building. He takes care of our people. ❤️
Our kids absolutely love him! He talks with them, encourages them, teaches them, and models what it means to work hard, treat people well, and take pride in what you do. He has become a wonderful mentor and role model for so many of our students.
We are incredibly fortunate to have a man of such character and experience as part of our team.
Great schools need great people in every role — and Mr. Richard is certainly one of ours! 🏴‍☠️❤️

With 51 years of combined experience, our Title I team brings a wealth of knowledge, dedication, and heart to our Pirates every single day!
Through targeted reading and math interventions, they meet students where they are, build their confidence, and give them the extra support they need to grow, succeed, and achieve their goals. 📚➕✏️
They are patient, persistent, and kind—and they never give up on a child. We are so thankful for the difference they make at Mercer! 🏴‍☠️❤️

❤️🖤 Meet Our Fabulous 5th Grade Team! 🖤❤️
Our 5th grade staff brings an incredible 69 years of combined experience to our Pirates! 🏴‍☠️
In 5th grade, we departmentalize, allowing our teachers to focus on their subject-area expertise while giving students the opportunity to build independence, responsibility, and the skills they’ll need to make a successful transition to middle school.
And the results speak for themselves! 📚✨ Last year, our 5th grade general education students achieved 74% proficiency in ELA! WOW! 🎉👏 They also achieved 39% proficiency in Science, surpassing the county average!
Behind that number are teachers who know their content, know their students, and work incredibly hard to help every child grow.
69 years of experience. 74% ELA proficiency. One powerhouse team preparing our Pirates for what comes next! ❤️🖤🏴‍☠️

☀️ SUMMER STAFF BINGO — WITH THE SWEETEST ENDING! ❤️🏴‍☠️
Every summer, we try to find fun ways to keep our Pirate staff connected while still giving everyone plenty of time to relax, recharge, and enjoy their families. This year’s Staff Summer BINGO was SO much fun! We shared pictures, celebrated summer adventures, and got to see our team enjoying some much-deserved downtime. ☀️🌊📚
🎉 Congratulations to Mrs. Holliday, our BINGO winner!
But the best part came afterward. Mrs. Montgomery was sooooo close to winning, and Mrs. Holliday decided she wanted to spread a little kindness and love—so she gave her prize to Mrs. Montgomery. 🥹❤️
And THAT is who we are.
A team that cheers for one another.
A team that takes care of one another.
A team that chooses kindness.
Our team is strong. Our hearts are full. ❤️

🚨 SCHOOL CLOTHES GIVEAWAY — THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 22! 👕👖👟

We want to make sure EVERY kid who comes through has a chance to leave with clothes for school! ❤️

Each child can receive:

👕 5 Shirts
👖 5 Pairs of Pants
🩲 Undergarments
👟 1 Pair of Shoes

📍 BLUEFIELD — Culture Grill & Cantina
⏰ 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
🔥 BLOWOUT: 1:00 – 3:00 PM

📍 KIMBALL — Five Loaves & Two Fish Food Bank
⏰ 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
🔥 BLOWOUT: 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Mrs Linda was already having Creepalachia down for a fun day that includes people coming to get food! So they were kind enough to let us set up shop and help with a purpose!

📦 IF YOU ALREADY SENT US YOUR CHILD’S SIZES:
Your clothes will be SET TO THE SIDE WITH YOUR NAME ON THEM and ready for you to pick up! ❤️ So if you’ve already reached out and gave us the sizes you need, you don’t have to worry about those clothes being taken during the giveaway.

WHAT DOES “BLOWOUT” MEAN? 😂

COME CLEAN HOUSE FOR US!

Until 1:00 PM, we’ll be limiting how many items each family can take so we can make sure as many kids as possible get something.

Once 1:00 PM hits — COME PICK THEM UP! 🙌😂 We’d much rather see everything go home with families who can use it than have clothes left over!

As students head back to school, law enforcement reminds everyone to help keep our children safe:

Stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
Slow down and stay alert in school zones and near bus stops.
Put the phone down — distracted driving can have serious consequences.
Watch for children crossing streets and entering or exiting buses.
See something, say something — report suspicious or concerning activity.

Please be patient, stay alert, and help make this a safe school year for everyone!
