UMN Extension - Mille Lacs County Master Gardeners We are the Mille Lacs County branch of the University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners.

As a land-grant institution, the University of Minnesota has a mission to address critical issues through public education. University of Minnesota Extension education and research improves economic, social and environmental conditions in Minnesota and the world by engaging Minnesotans to make better decisions, take positive action and create significant outcomes in their lives and communities. Th

e University of Minnesota Extension, working with the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, trains volunteers to educate the public with research-based information on the best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship. Each year, University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener volunteers give more than 135,000 hours to their communities—a public value worth more than $2.9 million. Master Gardener activities benefit schools, community gardens, youth programs, environmental education programs and farmers markets. These enthusiastic and highly trained volunteers make Minnesota communities more sustainable, beautiful, knowledgeable and fun.

Earlier in the season, we talked about seed trials. One of our Master Gardener Volunteers is trialing several different varieties, along with approximately 250 other gardeners in 48 counties.

Tess is sharing her results via data collection directly to the University of Minnesota Extension, along with photos like the ones you see in this post.

This year, Tess has trialed Mini Lettuce, Dwarf Zinnias, Bush Slicing Cucumbers, Direct Sow Tomatoes and Thunbergia. Tonight, Tess hit a data point-the first week of August, where appearance, size, pests, diseases and flavor, must be collected and shared.

After all the data is gathered, the results are shared with all of you! You can check out past years results and see if some of your favorites made the list!
