The School of Architecture, Princeton’s center for teaching and research in architectural design, history, and theory, offers an undergraduate major and advanced degrees at both the master’s and doctoral levels. In the undergraduate major, architecture is taught in the context of a liberal arts education, emphasizing the complex interrelationship between architecture, society, and technology. The curriculum for the master’s degree emphasizes design expertise in the context of urbanism, landscape and new technologies. Architecture is understood as a cultural practice involving both speculative intelligence and practical know-how. Each student constructs a personal course of study around a core of required courses that represent the knowledge essential to the education of an architect today. Join Princeton School of Architecture alum Isidoro Michan-Guindi for a lecture on the work of his Mexico City–based studio, Taller Isidoro Michan-Guindi, founded in 2019.

From a door handle and a self-propelling stool to a house and a tower, Michan-Guindi’s practice explores an architecture that is “half building, half something else.”

In this lecture, he will present the ideas, experiments, and projects that have shaped his studio over the past several years.

Please join us in welcoming Kate Orff, FASLA, Founder of SCAPE, on Thursday, April 16th for her lecture, “Throughlines” at 6pm in Betts Auditorium.

Orff focuses on retooling the practice of landscape architecture relative to the uncertainty of climate change and creating spaces to foster social life, which she has explored through publications, activism, research, and projects. She is also the Director of the Urban Design Program, Co-Director of the Center for Resilient Cities and Landscapes (CRCL), and Professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP). Orff was the first landscape architect to receive the MacArthur Foundation’s ‘Genius’ Fellowship in 2017.
