HTI shares events and activities of graduates, scholars, partners, and colleagues as a service to our community.

The Hispanic Theological Initiative Consortium (HTIC) is an open consortium established in 2007 by eighteen prestigious Ph.D.-granting institutions to cultivate PhD students for leadership positions in the academy, the church, and the world who will strengthen Latine churches and communities. This National Latine Heritage Month, HTI celebrates the scholarship, leadership, and contributions that continue to strengthen Latine churches and communities.

This year holds special significance as HTI celebrates 30 years of cultivating scholars for leadership in the academy, the church, and the world. For three decades, scholars, mentors, leaders, and partner institutions have contributed their expertise and commitment toward strengthening Latine communities and advancing theological and religious education.

📣 Meet HTI graduate Rev. Dr. Cristal Silva-McCormick, one of the speakers at Church at the Crossroads — Atlanta 2026.

Rev. Dr. Silva-McCormick is an ordained minister, Christian educator, and Assistant Professor of Evangelism and Missions and Director of Latine Studies at Austin Seminary. Her teaching and ministry engage the global church, cross-cultural ministry, and complex questions facing Christian communities today.

As an HTI graduate, Rev. Dr. Silva-McCormick brings her experiences as a scholar, minister, and educator to this gathering in Atlanta.

As HTI prepares to celebrate 30 years, we are looking back at the people, stories, and shared commitments that have shaped our history while looking ahead to the history we are still making together.

In “En conjunto,” Dr. Daniel Ramírez offers a personal reflection on HTI’s history, adapted from remarks he delivered at the 2018 Professional Development Conference. His reflection reminds us that HTI’s history is not only something we inherit. It is something we continue to create.

As we approach our 30th anniversary, we remember the history that brought us here and celebrate the history we are still making, en conjunto.

Are you an early-career scholar discerning a vocation in theological education?

The Louisville Institute’s Postdoctoral Fellowship offers a two-year placement at a seminary, university, college, or research organization in the U.S. or Canada, along with $75,000 in annual funding, mentoring, teaching experience, and professional formation.

The Fall 2027–Spring 2029 fellowship is designed to support emerging theological educators as they prepare to teach and equip future pastoral leaders.

At HTI, we often talk about working ‘en conjunto.’ But what does that really mean?

At this year’s Professional Development Conference, scholars had one minute to gather supplies before teaming up to create an archetype representing their field of study. Different perspectives came together to create, collaborate, and share with the larger community.

This fun and creative activity reflected something at the heart of HTI. En conjunto invites us to bring our individual perspectives to the table while recognizing what becomes possible when we listen, collaborate, and create alongside one another. As one third-year HTI Scholar reflected, “It’s about crossing the finish line together.”

🌟 HTI ALUMNA SPOTLIGHT

HTI alumna, Rev. Dr. Lis Valle-Ruiz, Associate Professor of Homiletics and Worship at McCormick Theological Seminary, will deliver the 2026 Castañeda-Jennings Lecture at Chicago Theological Seminary.

“Cuerpos Cuir que Cuentan: Preaching Pleasure Amid Peril” will explore what it means to preach pleasure as sacred rather than shameful, drawing on q***r theology, embodied performance, and the lectionary. The lecture honors Gilberto Castañeda’s memory by affirming that the bodies the church has overlooked have always counted—and always had a story to tell.
