By popular demand, we are adding the game for third place to our schedule: France v England kicks off today at 5 PM, Lakeside Commons. There will be snacks and soft drinks. Neither team wanted to only compete for third place, but there are still stakes. Goals in this game count toward the Golden Boot race, where France’s Mbappé is tied with Messi on eight. England, who have competed for third twice, in 1990 and 2018, and lost both times, are chasing their second ever medal, after their 1966 title.

For the World Cup Final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday at 3pm, we have set up an additional big screen outside the bar area with DBar’s own projector and screen, so you never miss a key play when getting food or drinks. There will also be pizza, drink tickets for early arrivals, and empanadas sponsored by GCHC, Community Associates and LGSA.

The World Cup is drawing to an end, demonstrating the spirit of sportsmanship, solidarity and peace. GSG has organized a series of screening in collaboration with different student groups at the campus club, Dbar, common rooms etc. Thank you for all who joined and see you at the final 2 screenings!

USA vs Belgium 🇺🇸🇧🇪 kicks off tonight (July 6th) at 8 PM at Campus Club. We’ll have b**r and Truly Berry seltzer on tap, plus Nomad pizza courtesy of Plant-Based Princeton. 🍕🍺🍻

These two teams last met at the 2014 World Cup, where Belgium won 2-1 in the Round of 16. Despite the loss, US goalkeeper Tim Howard set a still-standing World Cup record with 16 saves in a single match.

The screening is on, come rain or shine. We’re hoping the skies clear so we can host on the Back Lawn, but if not, we’ll head up to the 2nd Floor as our rain location.

After today, we will continue our screening series with the quarterfinals starting on Thursday! We’re looking for volunteers for our Saturday 9pm quarter final, which will be the last opportunity to screen a match on the Campus Club Back Lawn.

We’re planning to screen the semis and final as well, but these will be at 3pm hence indoors. Stay tuned for more details!

[Updated screening schedule!]

Happy Fourth of July! However you’re celebrating the day — cookouts, fireworks, or a well-earned rest — we hope it’s a good one.

If you’re looking for something to do, our friends at the Canadian Graduate Student Association are gathering at Lakeside to cheer on our neighbors to the north in Canada’s furthest World Cup knockout run ever. All are welcome to stop by.

And in the holiday spirit, get excited for Monday! We’ll be at Campus Club for USA vs Belgium (and still looking for volunteers, especially another bartender!). We have strong games tomorrow as well: Brazil Norway at 4pm in the afternoon, and Mexico England at 8pm. In case of rain we’re aiming to move them inside but stay tuned for updates.

[GSG World Cup Screening Update: Volunteers wanted!]

Tonight’s (July 2nd) screening is Portugal vs Croatia, 7 PM on the Campus Club Back Lawn, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks sponsored by the Slavic Club. This could be the last World Cup match for either Cristiano Ronaldo or Luka Modric. Croatia is looking to extend a remarkable run, having finished runners-up in 2018 and third in 2022. It’s going to be hot, so remember to stay hydrated.

We are sadly canceling Friday’s Argentina vs Cape Verde screening. Friday is projected to be even hotter than today, and with the earlier 6 PM kickoff, this would put us into direct sun for a majority of the game. We’re sad to miss Cape Verde’s historic first-ever knockout match, but we believe this is the right call given the heat advisory.

Finally, we are looking for volunteers (setup/ID checker/bartenders/cleanup) for Monday’s match (7/6). With Team USA advancing and meeting Belgium in the Round of 16, we are hoping to once again serve drinks – b**r and Truly Berry seltzer as a new addition. Help us make it happen!
