On Monday, October 4, the National Center for Girls’ Leadership at Stuart hosted the first Women In Leadership Speaker Series of the year, called "Her Artistic Vision," in support of the Upper School Leadership Endorsement in Arts & Humanities. Student hosts Dana Thompson '25 and Sonya Jin '22 led a Q&A session with panelists Charlotte La Nasa ’12, a playwright and dramaturg; Sarah “Dewi” Caswell ’10, DEIA advocate in the arts and hospitality industries; and Taneshia Nash Laird, president and CEO of Newark Symphony Hall.

One of the universal themes throughout the panel discussion was the benefit of taking advantage of connections and doing “all the things!” The three women have very different careers in the arts, but they all got there by staying true to their passions, leveraging connections and staying curious.

The National Center for Girls' Leadership at Stuart Labatut's Learning Lab internship program wrapped up its inaugural year with a virtual internship symposium on Wednesday. After reflecting on their experiences in a talk show style format with "host" Bonnie Milecki, interns then made pitches to ninth graders who will be going through the interview process to get placed in internships for next year. While the tasks and projects varied by internship and department, the students all gained valuable life skills and unanimously expressed gratitude for having their voices heard and for seeing their work in action at Stuart.

Congratulations to Stuart changemakers, Emily and Kathryn Ix!

Kathryn and Emily are co-heads of the Seeds to Sew Club in the Upper School and have been volunteering at the store for several years. They are Student Ambassadors of the nonprofit and are very passionate about girls’ education and women’s empowerment. This fundraiser was part of Emily’s Applied Leadership project through the The National Center for Girls' Leadership at Stuart.

Thank you SEW much for all the orders and donations to Kathryn & Emily’s Stuart Country Day School fundraiser! They packed all the goodies today and will send them out next week. If you chose to pick up your order at the shop, you may do so anytime during our business hours (Tue-Sat 11-6).

The fundraiser was a HUGE success - Kathryn and Emily raised over $1,000 for our education program! A girl in rural Kenya will be going to school for a whole year as a direct result of Kathryn’s and Emily’s efforts.❤️

A HUGE THANK YOU to Kathryn and Emily, you girls are amazing!!!❤️
