What a find: An almost 400-year-old silver coin was found in a field in St. Mary's City, near the southern tip of Maryland. It was established by English colonists in 1633, making it one of the earliest colonial settlements established in New England.

The coin was probably minted in London in about 1633, and is worth the equivalent of about $8 in the 17th century. It portrays the English king Charles I, who was eventually executed during the English Civil War.
