Land value return is needed, pragmatic, achievable — and winning - The Progress and Poverty Institute 06/09/2026

On June 3rd, 2026, the Center for Land Economics and the Progress and Poverty Institute teamed up again for the latest in our “LVT Landscape LIVE” series, where we update the community on what’s happening nationwide in land value tax (LVT) policy.

This time we were joined by a panel of elected officials and advocates who have actually moved land value taxation forward on the ground — in Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and New York.

Many people couldn’t make it live, so we’re glad to share the recording and the full transcript below. Many thanks to our partners at the Center for Land Economics, especially Greg Miller, and to all of the officials and advocates who joined us.

Guest Commentary: A Dollar Won’t Do 06/04/2026

Progress and Poverty Institute Director of Strategy and Impact Russell Richie has written a guest column in The Philadelphia Citizen. Russell argues that Philadelphia should opt for a percentage-based tax on ride-hailing, over the mayor's proposed flat fee on ride-hails. One big reason why: a percentage-based tax scales with surge pricing, and therefore implicitly taxes congestion.

And as Dave Wetzel, former vice chair of Transport for London, put it: A congestion tax is a “land tax on wheels.”

Guest Commentary: A Dollar Won’t Do City Council has one chance to get rideshare taxation right. Russell Richie's solution combines the ideas of Parker, Uber and economics 101
