Study: Childhood obesity in U.S. accelerated during pandemic
NEW YORK (AP) — A new study ties the COVID-19 pandemic to an “alarming” increase in obesity in U.S. children and teenagers. Childhood obesity has been increasing for decades, but the new work suggests an acceleration last year — especially in those who already were obese when the pandemic st...

My Kids’ School Closed Again. So I Started Calling Experts.
Many New York City public schools have been repeatedly closed because of two positive COVID-19 tests, even without evidence of in-school spread. Experts call it “crazy.” And it’s driving me nuts.

*Board of Ed comments leave doubt about a full reopening of Princeton schools*
MAR 31, 2021 —
At last night’s Board of Education Meeting the Board’s President, Beth Behrend, addressed the circulating petition (see link at bottom).
Rather than committing to a plan for full in-person instruction in the fall, she instead responded by listing the OBSTACLES to a full re-opening. She noted that one obstacle was “student and staff comfort level” – an unreasonable standard not mentioned in any state or CDC guidelines.
She also incorrectly implied that a full re-opening depended on state mandates, when in fact NJ has offered guidelines, not mandates. Under the current guidelines, a full re-opening is possible even in the spring. Some of her comments were in contradiction to those made by our own interim superintendent, as well as recent comments by Governor Murphy.
It is very concerning that the Board of Ed has still not discussed any plans for next year and does not appear 100% committed to a full re-opening.
It is now more important than ever to attend and, importantly, to speak up at board meetings (the next meeting on is April 13) and to forward this petition to as many people as you can.

This past Friday the CDC issued revised guidelines about in-person K-12 school. There are both positive changes and potential new hurdles. And Governor Murphy still has not said whether he would change NJ guidelines to reflect the changes announced by the CDC (again, many of these are not actual mandates).
We therefore need your help in sharing this petition so we can get more signatures (we are almost at 1000!) showing our support for 100% full-time, in-person school. We still have not seen a plan with details to assure us this will happen .... for September. A plan that sufficiently addresses Covid-19 mitigation measures and which provides adaptability to changing viral transmission levels - this is critical to a full re-opening whether it is this school year or the fall (again, many of these are not actual mandates).
We are asking you to share this petition link with at least ONE person who you think is in favor of a safe, full re-opening of schools and who would sign the petition.
If you want to go one step further, writing emails to state elected and appointed officials such as Governor Murphy, district 16 assembly persons and senator, and state health commissioner would be helpful as well.
Thanks again for everyone’s support - together, we are making positive progress!
