Ms. KC knew she wanted to be a teacher long before she found her way to Landmark. She just didn't expect her journey to start in music.
With a degree in K–12 Education, Ms. KC began her career as an elementary music teacher in South Carolina, teaching more than 900 students in grades K–4. The experience strengthened her classroom management skills and taught her how to adapt her instruction to help different learners succeed. Since 2021, she has also worked as a music director for a local youth theater company, teaching students in grades 6–12, an experience she continues to draw on in her classroom today.
Now in her second year at Landmark, Ms. KC wears many hats as a History teacher, tutorial teacher, JV volleyball coach, and assistant JV basketball coach.
What keeps her here? The students. “I truly love working with the kids,” she says. “They make working here so fun.” Some of her favorite moments aren't part of a lesson plan at all. They're the conversations between classes, the students who stop by just to say hello, and those eager to share what they're working on.
When the school day ends, Ms. KC is often still teaching. She gives private voice lessons and performs with her band, keeping music an important part of her life.
Whether she's leading a history discussion, coaching from the sidelines, directing young performers, or helping students find their voice, literally and figuratively, Ms. KC brings the same energy, enthusiasm, and love of teaching to everything she does.
