Your voice matters! Help us support student mental health.

The Healthy Minds Study is coming to BSCTC October 19–November 16!

📩 Look for an email invitation on October 19 for your opportunity to participate. The study is confidential and open to all students who are 18 years or older.

Your participation will help us better understand student mental health and identify the services and resources students need to succeed—both in and out of the classroom.

Together, we can help create a healthier, more supportive campus community!

Take a step towards better health!

The BSCTC Wellness Committee invites all employees and students to join us for our upcoming Health Fair on Friday, October 23! Stop by to connect with local healthcare providers, explore valuable health resources, and take advantage of the health screenings and services that will be available onsite.

Walgreens will be onsite providing vaccines, including options for individuals without insurance. Vaccine titer testing will also be available.
Planning to get vaccinated? Scan the QR code on the flyer to register.

Participating vendors include UK-KDMC, PMC, Floyd County EMS, ARH, Humana Insurance, BSCTC Nursing and Dental, Walgreens, Kentucky Blood Center, and more!

Traveling the Paranormal Highway: Book Talk

Have you ever wondered about Kentucky’s strangest paranormal encounters? From Little Green Men and Civil War phantom soldiers to ghostly spirits, Bigfoot sightings, and a devious Goatman, Kentucky has no shortage of mysterious stories!

Join us at Big Sandy Community & Technical College for a fascinating afternoon with Mason Smith and Marie Mitchell, former journalists and retired Eastern Kentucky University professors, as they share stories from their book, Paranormal Kentucky: An Uncommon Wealth of Close Encounters with Aliens, Ghosts and Cryptids.

The authors traveled across Kentucky exploring eyewitness accounts and reported paranormal encounters, bringing together some of the state’s most unusual and intriguing tales. Come hear the stories, explore the unexplained, and decide for yourself what might be out there!

The 2026 KVEC Fall Transition Conference, hosted by the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative (KVEC), came to a close Friday.

Big Sandy Community and Technical College welcomed educators and education professionals from across the region to the Prestonsburg campus. The conference focused on helping students successfully navigate important transitions while building the skills, knowledge and career readiness they need to prepare for their futures.

Meet our September Student of the Month, Jessica Strong! 💙💛

Jessica’s journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your goals and create a new beginning. After returning to BSCTC in fall 2025, Jessica is pursuing an associate degree in Business Administration with a focus in Business Management while balancing work, family and her commitment to helping others.

As a certified Peer Support Specialist and GED Examiner and assistant in BSCTC’s Adult Education program, Jessica is already making a difference by supporting students and mentoring Ready to Work participants.

Her goal? To use her education and personal experiences to create a nonprofit organization that helps struggling mothers pursue education, employment and opportunities for a better life.

Congratulations, Jessica, on being selected as our Student of the Month!
