Today we commemorate Juneteenth, which marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. This act liberated the last 250,000 enslaved people, more than two years after the proclamation was first issued.
As a university dedicated to learning and discovery, we recognize the importance of understanding our shared history and honoring the significance of this day.

Nursing Student Spotlight đ©șđ
The University of Maine at Fort Kentâs Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, delivered on the UMPI campus, held its annual Nursing Pinning Ceremony at UMPI in May. Congrats to all the graduates, including those who were able to attend in person: Krista Coffin, Danielle Cyr, Trena Hafke, Courtney Kane, Kylie LaPlante, and Gabby Morang!
The collaborative program allows students to begin at UMPI and transition into UMFKâs nursing program without relocating to the Fort Kent campus.
Thank you to the faculty, mentors, and families who supported these graduates along the way. đ
