Jacob Barker (Senior)

"Jacob Barker is a driven and ambitious student destined for great success. Every now and then, as a teacher, you meet a young person who demonstrates exceptional promise and potential. Jacob is among the top of those students I have encountered in my career. I first met him during his sophomore year when he–out of the blue–sought me out to ask for financial advice, having never taken one of my classes.
The following year, I was privileged to teach him personal finance, where he asked outstanding questions and showed a determined care for his future. Over the last three years, I’ve witnessed Jacob grow as a person. What stands out most to me is his personability, his ability to forge relationships, and his ability to critically think by connecting knowledge with passion. I have probably seen him more outside of class than during because of his drive. He seeks me out with questions, takes what he learns and immediately applies it, and genuinely takes every opportunity to continue rounding himself as a person. Jacob is something of a polymath, a multifaceted individual with an impressive resume of skills and talent–most he’s worked hard to hone on his own time while pushing forward with impressive fortitude. He is a natural leader, is willing to challenge the status quo with an admirable decorum, and is forward-minded enough to consider casualty in a chain. I am proud of his accomplishments and look forward to seeing where the next steps in his journey lead him; I know whatever he does and wherever he goes, the world will be a better place because of his contributions." - Mr. DeWuske
