A whole body dentist understands that the teeth and the rest of the body are connected. If a horse is “off” they know what teeth are out of balance before they look. They pay attention, down to the mm, balance of the front incisors and how important it is. They use hand tools because this is an art and precision matters. Also, power tools can easily take just a little too much off each time and over the years that builds up to the horse needing to eat mash instead of hay at a younger age.

I can’t say strong enough how worth it it is to travel the distance required to the practitioner closest to you or gather a group large enough for that person to come to you.
