Early educators are ESSENTIAL! ❤️

The child who won’t leave the sink and keeps washing their hands over and over may actually be doing important work.

Sometimes, as adults, we step in too quickly with, “Okay, time to be done.”

Repetition is a good thing.

Sometimes we are too quick to move children along because it looks like they are “just playing with water,” but repetition is exactly how children build coordination, focus, confidence, and deeper understanding through movement.

Water naturally calls children in. They want to return to it again and again.

Of course, there are moments when the flow of the classroom matters. Right before lunch, when many children need to wash hands, may not be the time for one child to stay there for a long period. But throughout the morning, there should absolutely be space for repetition, especially with water.

Repetition is not something we need to rush children out of. Even when it involves water.

It's almost 4am and I'm just about to begin proofing and editing our graduation programs. All four of our primary students are moving on to bigger adventures! Bittersweet...I'm so grateful for such a joyous second year with our staff, students, and my lovely and devoted mom, Sandra C Houston at Montessori Children's Academy.
