Sharing from Bear Smart Durango… for years and years we’ve heard the old wives tale about pouring ammonia, Pine-Sol, mothballs or other household cleaners/solvents in, on or around your garbage can to deter bears. It doesn’t work. Oh yeah, and plastic lidded dumpsters don’t deter bears either.
