OLLI at Yavapai College to Host Open House in Prescott Valley Aug. 12

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Yavapai College invites the community to an engaging Open House on Wed. Aug. 12 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Prescott Valley Center, 3800 N. Glassford Hill Road.

This free event is an opportunity for adults aged 50 and better to meet facilitators, discover upcoming classes, and explore all that OLLI has to offer in Prescott Valley.

“The programs offered through OLLI at our various Yavapai Colleges and centers is a great way for members of the community to learn from others and to teach others what they know, but it’s also a wonderful way to residents to forge friendships, seek community, and encounter different perspectives,” said Yavapai College Acting President Dr. Doug Berry.

Starting Aug. 24, OLLI will offer a robust lineup of engaging, non-credit classes designed to stimulate the mind and spark new friendships. OLLI’s upcoming classes in Prescott Valley include Estate Planning, Impactful but Little-Known Women in U.S. History, Foreign Films, Wellness in a Changing World, and Beginning Quilling (a lovely craft using coiled paper) among others. Classes are all offered by volunteer facilitators who are members of OLLI.

Whether you're a returning member or new to OLLI, the Open House is a perfect chance to ask questions, meet the team, and register for fall classes in person.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Yavapai College is a vibrant community of learners aged 50 and over who enjoy exploring new ideas, developing new skills, and building friendships through classes and shared interests. There are no tests, grades, or pressure—just the joy of learning.

Yavapai College Named a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense

National Security Agency designation recognizes the college’s rigorous cybersecurity curriculum, faculty expertise and commitment to workforce development.

Yavapai College has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) through the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity program managed by the National Security Agency’s National Cryptologic School.

The designation recognizes Yavapai College for meeting rigorous national standards in cybersecurity education. It affirms that the college’s associate’s degree and certificates provide students with the knowledge, technical competencies and practical experience needed to help protect information systems and critical infrastructure. Yavapai College joins an elite group of 450 institutions nationwide that hold the Cyber Defense designation.

“This designation is a significant achievement for Yavapai College and an important investment in the future of our students and community,” Yavapai College Administrator on Duty, Provost and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Doug Berry said. “Cybersecurity affects nearly every sector of the economy. Recognition as a National Center of Academic Excellence demonstrates that Yavapai College’s programs are preparing graduates to meet that challenge with the skills, judgment and ethical foundation employers require.”

Ideas and Possibilities Emerge at Yavapai County Prosperity Network Summit.

Growth and sustainability. Industry and opportunity. How can Yavapai County reconcile these values and forge them into an economic plan? Civic and industry leaders met with local mayors on Tuesday to table partisan agendas, explore common ground and plan a vibrant future for our community at Session Three of the Yavapai County Economic Prosperity Network Summit, held at Yavapai College’s Verde Valley Campus.

“The work we’re doing together matters.” Dr. Marylou Mercado, Yavapai College’s Vice President of Workforce Development, Health Sciences and Public Services, told the gathering. "Because the future of workforce and economic development in Yavapai County depends on our ability to learn from one another, listen to each other and understand how our communities are connected. Thank you for coming – with curiosity and care, and a shared commitment to the prosperity of our region.”
