A 3-Year Bachelor's Degree!!! Who's excited for this??

Another first is on the horizon at YC: a 3-year business bachelor’s degree! Pending approval of the Higher Learning Commission, the accelerated degree will be a first in the nation for a community college. The YC District Governing Board approved moving forward with the degree and, if approved by the HLC, will begin enrolling for fall 2025. “This new opportunity to create more affordable bachelor’s degrees while reducing the time to completion will be a game-changer for students. It will allow them to get educated, get their degree, walk across the graduation stage, and impact the workforce a full year sooner than before,” said YC President Dr. Lisa Rhine.

Last night, Yavapai College's FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) group had a quick informal pizza party along with playing cards as a way to get together and celebrate their accomplishments at the Fall Leadership Conference. We're planning some exciting events for all Yavapai College students to participate in over the next 2 months. Want to learn more about FBLA and be part of the fun? Congratulations to our YC FBLA Collegiate Chapter on their first appearance at the AZ FBLA Fall Leadership Conference. When Yavapai College says, “Be More,” the YC FBLA chapter takes it to heart. On Saturday, October 19th, they attended the Fall Leadership Conference in Phoenix, AZ, and the results were amazing! Students from across the state competed in written tests that allowed them to demonstrate their understanding of specific business concepts, and students also competed in a variety of competition events based on different business scenarios.

Yavapai College's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) checked in on Alumni Lukas Solano to see what he was up to since graduating in May 2024. Lukas, you are doing amazing! Thank you for sharing!
"My name is Lukas Solano, and I am currently a junior at Arizona State University studying Technical Communication. I was at Yavapai College for two years and started the FBLA Collegiate Chapter in 2022. I am currently a part of a leadership development program called the Next Generation Service Corp (NGSC) which is a scholarship branch under the Public Service Academy at ASU. While in this program, we learn about and engage in cross-sector collaboration through courses, conferences, Mission Team events and internships in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.

I am a part of the Student Leadership Team as a Section Lead, in which I oversee and guide three Mission Teams in the NGSC on their chosen social mission for the year.

Going to Yavapai College and being a part of FBLA Collegiate is one of the best decisions I have ever made! I had time to explore different majors and discover a lot about myself. Specifically, leading the FBLA Collegiate Chapter gave me the chance to hear so many different student and professional’s stories, allowing me to develop greater communication, networking and leadership skills. It is a program I am forever thankful for in its impact it has had on my student success journey.

I hope everyone who joins FBLA Collegiate is excited and ready to put that classroom knowledge to work! You will learn so much about leadership and make amazing friends not only at Yavapai, but with other students across Arizona who are in the same positions as you. Being a part of a program like FBLA Collegiate already emphasizes student success, as you are acknowledging what You Can do; now you are working to Be More!
