PHS took a group of juniors to tour UAB and Montevallo today! The snowy tour was a fun surprise in Birmingham, but the snow was all gone by the time we got to Montevallo! The kids enjoyed seeing the difference between a large urban campus and a small rural campus.

This week I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the STARS (Small Town And Rural Students) Counselor Tour, visiting Auburn University, The University of Alabama, and Vanderbilt University!

School counselors from across the country — from Hawaii to Maine — came together to learn what makes these universities exceptional options for students from schools like Prattville High and how we can better support students through the college admissions process.

📍 Auburn University
Our tour began in Auburn with a campus visit, lunch featuring special remarks from President Roberts, and behind-the-scenes tours of the culinary and forestry programs.

📍 The University of Alabama
At Alabama, we explored the Schools of Engineering, Nursing, and Communication & Information Sciences and learned more about the many pathways available to our students.

📍 Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN)
Our final stop was Vanderbilt University, where we learned how students can successfully navigate admissions at a highly selective institution (currently under a 6% acceptance rate!) and about their outstanding financial aid opportunities. We also toured campus and attended a women’s basketball game — an unforgettable experience!

I return from this week feeling even more prepared to help our Prattville Lions find colleges that fit their goals and confidently navigate the admissions process.

Mrs. Nunn, one of our newest counselors at Prattville High School, was selected by ASCA (American School Counseling Association) to be a Lead RAMP Reviewer (LRR). She was flown out to Phoenix, Arizona last weekend, where she led her team in scoring three applications from schools across the country.

Mrs. Nunn led her previous school in earning a RAMP designation, marking it as a model National School Counseling Program. She has also previously contributed to an article in ASCA’s School Counseling Magazine. We are so excited to have her as part of our Student Services team!

The University of Alabama hosted PHS seniors today as part of their Vision Day program. Today was the first of four visits (one visit for each grade level) offered by the program. Seniors got a tour of the campus, met with a panel of students, learned about the scholarship and application processes, and more!
