K-State Extension Entomology department has shared that Fall Armyworms are now active in Kansas. Based on pheromone traps, these damaging pests arrived in Kansas in mid-June and their numbers are growing.

Many in the area have experienced the crop devastation these insects can cause in their larval stage. As caterpillars, the Fall Armyworm grows at an exponential rate and the larger the caterpillars are the more damage they do and the harder they are to control. Early detection and treatment is the best option to minimize damage.

🦋 Fall Armyworm Monitoring Underway 🦋

Kingman County is once again participating in the statewide Fall Armyworm moth trapping program. Pheromone traps have been placed throughout the county to monitor moth activity, and Fall Armyworm moths have already been detected in one of our traps.

These traps will be checked weekly, with moth counts submitted to the Great Lakes and Maritime Pest Monitoring Network. Monitoring helps provide early warning of potential infestations and supports timely management decisions for producers and homeowners alike.
