When students have clear partner roles, they can get to the thinking faster and go deeper with the text.

During these social studies walkthroughs in Ouachita Parish, students used partner roles to work through text-dependent questions, support their answers with evidence, and learn from each other.

With partner roles, students can divide the questions and explain their thinking to each other, or tackle a question together by finding and flagging different pieces of evidence in the text. Either way, students are accountable for the thinking and the evidence behind their answers.

That means less time answering every question alone and more time learning from each other.

Y’all have been asking for writing strategies, and we heard you!

You might have heard us joke: “When in doubt, summarize it out.” Kids often summarize the text and hope the answer is in there somewhere.

That’s why we’re starting with understanding the prompt. The “Write What?” strategy helps students figure out exactly what they’re being asked to write before they get started.

We’ve had a lot of success with this strategy, and so have our teachers. They’re seeing students jump into this simple prewriting process, narrow their focus, and get their thoughts onto paper with more confidence.

Saying “no” can feel uncomfortable, especially when you care about your students and your team.

But caring doesn’t mean you have unlimited time or capacity. When expectations grow beyond your hours or the support available, it’s okay to name those limits.

Someone may be disappointed. That doesn’t automatically mean you’ve made the wrong decision.

Setting boundaries takes practice, and it’s one way to protect yourself from burnout!

If you’ve been in a training with Aunjel, you know. 💛

She’s direct, makes things easy to understand, and has a presence that keeps a room right there with her. She gives teachers time to work through what they’re learning and keeps bringing it back to what they’ll do with their students.

Last week, she worked with Red River Parish teachers on helping students write independently in social studies. A big piece of that work is finding places in the lessons they already teach to build in writing practice, so students get more opportunities to put their thinking into words.

We love watching Aunjel do her thing, and we appreciate the Red River teachers for doing theirs: working through the strategies, learning from each other, and thinking about what will help their students.

That’s what gives the learning somewhere to go after the training ends.

Their reaction to your kind words is a mirror reflecting what your support means to them. You may be seeing a difference you’ve made in their day, their week, their year, or even their life.

Teachers’ hard work shows up in more than data and performance scores. Sometimes, it shows up in a smile over a sticky note.
