Almost three and a half hours. For our littlest ones.

No shame here — every parent has handed over a tablet to get through dinner.

But their brains are still under construction. A few small swaps at these ages go a long way.

Looking for a gentle reset? We'll help you build one that fits your real life.

Real talk for the parents here: has your kid ever called YOU out for being on your phone?

One dad we talked with got the “Dad, you have your phone out” treatment at the dinner table, right after his fifth grader spent a year studying screen time. He didn’t brush it off. He called it a mirror reflected back at him, and a gift.

That’s the whole thing. This was never a kids-only problem. When your kid points it out, it’s an invitation to be more present. Full story on The Screen Guardians Podcast Ep 36.

Half. And most of it happens without a parent in the room.

This isn't a reason to panic — it's a reason to get curious.

Try this tonight: "Have you ever used one of those AI chat things? What do you use it for?" No lecture. Just a door, opened.

We've got conversation starters for the AI talk — gentle, not gotcha. Find them in the Parent Portal.

You don’t always have to take the phone away.
At Fight Club, a peer support group for teens, they never collect phones at the door. Ryan Bevins told JP they wouldn’t need to, and he was right. The kids put them down and forget about them.
One boy came running back into the building after everyone left: “Mr. Claxton, I forgot my phone. Do you know where it is?”
Think about that sentence coming out of a teenager.
The whole conversation is in Ep 35 of the podcast. Link> https://thescreenguardians.com/teen-loneliness-peer-support-fight-club/

For years we counted minutes. The new focus? Quality over quantity.

The questions that matter now:
• What are they watching?
• Is it calming or activating?
• What is it crowding out?
• Are we talking about it together?

Freeing, isn't it? It's not about a perfect number.

Want a simple way to judge "good screen time" vs. "empty screen time"? We break it down in the Parent Portal.

A fifth grader told us how she knows she’s been on a screen too long, and her list is sharper than most adults could write:
She loses track of time. That “wait, it’s been two hours?” feeling. She feels embarrassed, like everyone’s watching, even when no one is. She gets more irritable and picks more fights at home.

Sound familiar? These aren’t kid problems. They’re human ones. The gift is teaching kids to notice them early, and noticing them in ourselves too. Full story on Ep 36 of The Screen Guardians Podcast.

We’re not getting rid of response. We’ll always need people to help others heal.
We’re just moving the starting line.
Prevention doesn’t have to be complicated. It looks like a parent starting a conversation a little earlier than feels necessary. It looks like schools teaching digital health, not just digital skills. Small, steady, ahead of the problem.

Phone-free school days just became the norm — not the exception.

But a ban at school works best when home speaks the same language.

This year, the family that reinforces "phones away" at the dinner table gives their kid a real advantage.

Not sure where to start at home? We'll walk you through it — you're not alone in this.

At The Screen Guardians, we believe education is the greatest form of protection.
When people have real knowledge, they make healthier choices for themselves and their families. And a community that learns together gets safer together.
If this one resonated, share it with a parent, educator, or neighbor. When we educate early and lead with intention, we don’t just respond to problems. We prevent them. 💙

Ever feel like your kid tunes you out the second you bring up screen time? A fifth grader explained why, and honestly, she nailed it.

“If somebody told me candy was bad, I’d still eat it anyway. The more you do something, the more attached you get to it.”

It’s not stubbornness. It’s attachment. Which is exactly why taking the screen away rarely fixes the root of it. Understanding does. More on that on Episode 36 of The Screen Guardians Podcast.
