We have an opening in Kinderleben ("Child Life") for our 4-5 year old class!

Charlotte Mason Powhatan is a Charlotte Mason homeschool community walking the same educational philosophy together, term after term, with teachers and mothers who know these children and grow alongside them.

Kinderleben, "child life," is exactly what it sounds like. At four and five, children don't need worksheets or academic pressure. They need rich atmosphere, gentle habits, real stories told well, time outdoors, and a teacher who knows how to draw a child out rather than talk AT them. This is the beginning of a lifelong love of learning, built slowly and without hurry.

Charlotte Mason wrote that children are born persons, not blank slates waiting to be filled. That's the heart of everything we do here, starting in this very first class.

Dear Sister,

There is something I have been quietly working on, and I want you to be the first to know about it.

It started, as most things do, with a question I kept hearing from mothers around me — and asking myself: why isn't my habit training working?

We read Charlotte Mason. We understand the philosophy. We believe that children are persons, that habits are the rails that set life running smoothly, that our days can be different than they are. And yet we still find ourselves reacting, correcting, managing — and falling into bed wondering what went wrong.

I struggled with this, still do (after all, it's a growth model!) and want us to be growing together!

Lend Your Strength: A Charlotte Mason Approach to Habit Training is a course I've been building for the mother who is ready to stop reacting and start training, who wants to understand how habit training really works, so that she can move from overwhelm to smooth and easy days with children who are her delightful companions.

This is not a course about behavior management. It is not a checklist or a system. It is a deep, unhurried look at what Charlotte Mason actually taught about habit and what it means to train from peace, with presence, lending your strength to your child's effort rather than managing from a distance.

Charlotte Mason Powhatan meets Tuesday mornings at Old Powhatan Baptist Church in Powhatan, VA. We have a few spots remaining across our classes!

Class 1 — Half Day (Ages ~6–8)
🕘 Arrival 8:45 | Instruction 9:00–11:45
Literature, artist study, recitation, composer study, and music instruction (solfège)
💵 $175 non-refundable materials fee at registration | Tuition: $275/term

Class 2 — Full Day (Ages ~8–12)
🕘 Arrival 8:45 | Instruction 9:00–3:00
All half-day subjects plus science, Swedish drill, folk dancing, and geography
