Today, we join in recognizing Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom and progress.

Observed on June 19, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

At Gamma Iota Sigma, we believe in the importance of learning from our history, honoring the experiences of others, and continuing to grow together as a community.
