“But they KNOW the rule!”

If you’ve said this about your child with ADHD, you’re definitely not alone. A child can understand a boundary perfectly well and still have difficulty following it in the moment.

In my latest blog post, I’m digging into why that happens and why the answer isn’t always more reminders, more explanations, or simply trying to be “more consistent.”

Why do kids with ADHD struggle with boundaries even when they know the rules? Learn how executive functioning, the environment, and skill development can affect following limits.

“They listen perfectly at school...so why won't they listen at home?”

It's a question I hear from parents, and the answer isn't necessarily that your child *can* listen but is choosing not to.

School and home are very different environments, and those differences can tell us a lot about why a behavior is easier in one place than another.

I break down some of the reasons in my newest blog post 👇

Does your child follow directions at school but struggle at home? Learn why behavior can look different across settings and what parents can do to help.

Not sure why your child is struggling with sleep?

There can be many different reasons children have difficulty with bedtime, falling asleep, night waking, early waking, or other sleep challenges. And the same strategy won’t make sense for every child.

That’s why I created Why Won’t My Child Sleep?, a free guide that walks you through 5 common patterns that can contribute to children’s sleep challenges and helps you consider where to start.

Designed for families of children ages 2–12, including children with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and other differences that may affect sleep.

You’ve tried moving bedtime earlier.

You’ve worked on the bedtime routine.

You’ve cut back on screens.

Maybe you’ve even tried the sleep tip your friend swore completely changed bedtime at their house.

And your child is still struggling with sleep.

Sometimes the next step isn’t finding another strategy. It’s taking a closer look at what might be contributing to the sleep problem in the first place.

Sleep timing, bedtime resistance, difficulty falling asleep independently, worries or a busy mind, and night waking can all require us to think about sleep a little differently.

That’s why I created my free guide, Why Won’t My Child Sleep?

It walks you through 5 common patterns that can contribute to children’s sleep challenges and helps you think about what may be relevant for your child and where to start.

For families of children ages 2–12, including children with ADHD, autism, anxiety, and other differences that may affect sleep.

Ever find yourself thinking, “Why does my child keep doing this?” Especially after you've tried what feels like every strategy?

Sometimes the most helpful place to start isn't with another strategy. It's taking a closer look at why the behavior keeps happening.

In my newest blog post, I break down a few questions that can help you look at challenging behavior differently and figure out what your child may need instead.

Read it here 👇

Wondering why your child keeps repeating the same challenging behavior? Learn how understanding what happens before and after behavior can help you choose more effective strategies.

Parents hear “just be consistent” ALL the time.

And yes, consistency can be really important when we’re trying to change a behavior or teach a new skill.

But if a strategy is so complicated, time-consuming, or unrealistic that you can only follow it when you’re well-rested, completely calm, and no one else needs you...it’s probably going to be pretty hard to use consistently.

Real life has rushed mornings, sibling interruptions, forgotten steps, tired parents, and days when things just don’t go according to plan.

I don’t expect parents to implement a plan perfectly.

I want to help create strategies they can actually use when real life is happening.

Consistency matters. But the plan has to be doable first.

Follow along for realistic behavior strategies that are meant to work in real family life. 💙

Sometimes the first step in changing your child’s sleep isn’t choosing a sleep strategy.

It’s making sure you and your partner agree on what you’re actually trying to change.

Because “bedtime isn’t working” can mean very different things to different people.

Maybe bedtime is taking way too long. Maybe night wakings are exhausting everyone. Maybe one parent is ready for a change and the other isn’t sure. Or maybe you’ve never actually talked about what “better sleep” would look like for your family.

You don’t need to have the perfect solution before you have the conversation.

Start by defining the problem together.

Then you can figure out what makes sense for your child and your family. 💙

Send this to your bedtime teammate and talk through the 5 questions together.

Age-based sleep recommendations? Helpful. 👍

A chart telling you the exact time every child of a certain age should be asleep? That’s where we lose some important nuance.

Kids of the same age can have different sleep needs, wake times, schedules, and patterns of when they’re actually ready for sleep.

So if your child isn’t asleep at the time an Instagram post says they “should” be, it doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing bedtime wrong.

Recommendations can give us a starting point. The individual child still matters.

What’s a sleep “rule” you’ve seen online that you’ve wondered about? 👀
