The Monday Open Climb Night on October 26 (6-9 p.m., kids 12 & under from 6-7:30) will have a different feel to it as the climbing wall area will be decorated for Halloween and a costume contest will be part of the evening’s event. The trick? You’ll have to be able to climb in your costume. That means it can’t be too bulky for a climbing harness or have too much coming off that can get caught on the wall while climbing.

There will be winners for the family climb time and adult climb as well! Cost to enter is still $5 a person and free for NWC students. Non-costumed climbers are welcome too, but to win the contest, you must be in costume.

Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, October 13, from 4 to 6 PM to celebrate our 80th anniversary at the Orendorff Building Open House. While you enjoy free refreshments and giveaways, our Student Ambassadors will guide you through the newly modernized building, a campus landmark that was among the first permanent structures on campus. As part of the celebration, a collection of college photos taken by Herb and Pat Wolsborn in the mid-50s will also be on display in Hinckley Library. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Much thanks to one of our highly successful alums, Lindsay Linton Buk, for taking time to spend with our students and a few other local photographers today. Her lighting and portrait photography demo gave everyone a chance to learn more about her career and how she's brought all of it together to build her business. Lindsay worked as a commercial photographer in New York City and taught photography workshops for Canon before returning to Wyoming to establish her own portrait studio in Jackson. We'd also like to thank Kathryn Lowell for her time today as Lindsay's model.

Northwest College Education students have been out in Meeteetse this week and last for some on-site learning at Meeteetse School, preparing for their own time as classroom teachers.

Students in Introduction to Education, Literacy Foundations, Math for Elementary Teachers, and Curriculum and Planning for Young Children spent time this Monday (Oct. 5) observing how skills are taught in the context of Project Based Learning (PBL).

Last Friday (Oct. 2), Friday in the Field kicked off with students in both sections of Introduction to Education observing at Meeteetse School, and meeting with content and grade level teachers to plan a lesson, which they’ll teach when they return in November.

Mr. Shane Ogden, Superintendent of Park County School District Number 16, also provided new shirts illustrating and promoting the partnership of Trapper Teachers and Meeteetse Schools. All our NWC students who attended Friday and or Monday received a shirt. Faculty on these trips included Jo-el Sauers and Cammy Rowley in Education, Dr. Amy McKinney, Professor of History, and Kerrie Spinney, Associate Professor of Mathematics.

Northwest College is celebrating 80 years of making a difference for people across the Bighorn Basin and one of our most familiar buildings has a little bit different look on the inside. So to celebrate the anniversary and the reopening of the Orendorff Building, we’re inviting everyone to an open house on Tuesday, October 13, from 4-6 p.m. We’ll have refreshments and giveaways, and you can tour the building with some of the NWC Student Ambassadors. bit.ly/4AKQS7V
