FAMILY UPDATE - Celebration of Life:
Mark Bacilla died on March 1st from complications of his treatment for cancer. We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, students and community members, as we move through these very difficult days.

Mark’s Memorial Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 10th, at 1 PM at our home in Poway, and will be live-streamed. At this point, Due to Covid-19 safety guidelines, in-person attendance of the service will be limited to family members and presenters.

The service will be live streamed on the internet. A URL will be posted here prior to the service. UPDATE: 3/1
I am very sad to say that Mark died on March Ist from complications of his treatment for cancer. ... He is on his way, on that intergalactic journey through space and time, holding a tall glass of Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster in one hand and of course a guitar in the other, in a place where composing in 11 is a common thing. I am humbled to have stood with Mark, as my best friend, my husband and my mentor.

Hello Friends, As many of you know, Mark has been battling metastatic Lung Cancer for the past two years.
Mark is in hospital. He was admitted last-night for severe pneumonitis. It is from a reaction to his cancer treatment. He is in critical condition.
I was fortunate to be allowed to be with him in Emergency yesterday for all 10 hours, a true blessing. Today, the doctor arranged permission for me to visit so I am with him now, reading him messages as they come in, during times of wakefulness. They are saying that it’s a 50/50 chance on whether or not he will survive through today. He’s resting quietly, mildly sedated, as comfortable as possible. He is on breathing support (but not intubated as this is against his wishes)
I am so grateful for the luxury of being here with him, my best friend and soul mate on this journey through the universe, holding his hand, and advocating for him for as long as I am permitted.
I am sharing messages sent to him during moments of wakefulness. Please feel free to send both public and private messages to him and I will read them to him.
Raise a toast to Mark, if you would, with his favorite drink : Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters - 2/3 red Gatorade to 1/3 Diet 7Up on ice) That would really make his day!

UPDATE Saturday 2-26

It’s been a very rough 24 hours. We are working hard to bring Mark’s oxygen level up to a point where he can be safely transported home for hospice.
I have been reading each and every message to him. He is so deeply moved by the outpouring of love. Your messages are bringing both tears and laughter as we navigate this leg of the journey.

On a humorous note: (this is Mark we are talking about 😉)
Mark is significantly agitated that the various machines in the room ( Bi PAP and monitors) have a rhythmic meter miss-match. He said he doesn’t understand “the intent of the composer”
He says he see no possible solution. He has been trying intermittently to compose something in his head that accommodates the two musical sources. He says it's impossible but he's not giving up. Please wish him luck😅

Mark’s Trio, Lyriphon, is playing a gig at the Horton Grand tonight (a business conference) It’s pouring raining - when the thunder began, it sounded like their sound system exploded!! It scared the daylights out of everyone! I’ve never been downtown during a thunderstorm! Wow!!
