As has become the ever-increasing trend every year, EMS/Fire/Police personnel worldwide become "burned out" and leave the profession, and Regional Dive Rescue is no exception. Due to this trend, each year, in November, the command staff of Regional Dive Rescue reviews its personnel and sets the team officers and diver classifications...for 2019 the team officer and diver classifications shall be as follows:

Filling expended scuba tanks on today's agenda.

Being an organized regional scuba response team means always being prepared.

Although we have 20+ scuba tanks in our arsenal, even seven tanks in need of refill could potentially hinder us depending on size and scope of the pending dive operation. So, it is imperative to keep all 20+ filled and ready for immediate response.

Many of you, the recent invitees to like this page, received invites following a statement made by a Pound resident on Thursday who was present at the lake as we dove for and retrieved the vehicle. She remarked, "In the time I have lived here, I has no idea that Pound had a team like this."

Well, yes friends, we do. We have been established since 1985 as a division of Pound Rescue Squad consisting of certified divers from the emergency response agencies of this area and a few selected and recruited independent divers. We are at present 20+ divers strong with certifications ranging from an instructor to the entry level diver.

For all interested and for clarification, given our posts of previous days, Regional Dive Rescue employs basically same chain of command as followed in military in regard to their underwater personnel dive rank and file.
The chain of command is as follows:
Master Chief Diver
Senior Chief Diver
Chief Diver (4 count)
Senior Diver (diver with >100 logged dives)
Diver 1st Class (>50 logged dives)
Diver 2nd Class (>25 logged dives)
Diver 3rd Class (>10 logged dives), and
Apprentice Diver (10 dives or less).

All command divers Master Chief, Senior Chief and Chief must have logged over 75-100 dives and be certified as Rescue Diver and preferred Science of Diving certification.

The four (4) Chief Divers have equally distributed divers under their immediate supervision, preferably with a Senior Diver serving as a second under the Chief Diver.

At 4:15pm Regional Dive Rescue personnel Commander/Master Chief Phil Cantrell, Jr., Senior Chief John Stallard and Chief Travis Mullins accompanied by Diver 2nd Class Richie Reece serving as RIC Diver/Surface Command, responded to the launch ramp at North Fork Reservoir to execute a salvage/recovery operation of a submerged vehicle.
The vehicle was located in a quick manner and found to be on its top in 18-20' of water and 1-3' visibility. The team rigged the tow cable and rope so as to turn the vehicle on to it's wheels underwater and then have Pilkenton's 66 Towing pull the vehicle to shore and transport it to their holding lot.
Special thanks to Pilkenton's 66 Towing for their confidence in the divers of Regional Dive Rescue in requesting our services and always working with us to safely and effectively complete the task at hand and thanks for the response and on-scene support of Pound Rescue Squad, members of Pound Vol. Fire Dept., Pound Police Dept. and Virginia State Police.

Congratulations from Regional Dive Rescue to Dive Chief Willie Meade upon reaching the highly coveted milestone of the SSI Master Diver rating.
Upon meeting SSI required criteria of completion of four (4) SSI Specialty certifications and SSI Diver Stress & Rescue as well as having logged 50 or more dives, Willie has achieved his much desired goal.
Congratulations Dive Chief Meade, you have worked hard to achieve this rating and it is well-deserved.

Congratulations from Regional Dive Rescue to three of our team divers, Dive Chiefs Logan Jackson, Willie Meade and Diver 1st Class Cody Pilkenton recently successfully completed the SSI Science of Diving course.
This course is an academic intensive course, that, once completed, provides the cardholder with an instructor-based knowledge of scuba and is comprised of five (5) sections:
1 - Dive Physics
2 - Dive Physiology
3 - Decompression Theory
4 - Total Dive System and all Accessories and
5 - The Aquatic Environment.
Congratulations on your accomplishment and we will look forward to you utilizing your newly found knowledge of scuba on future team outings.

A FRIENDLY REMINDER...if interested, enrollment is required and fees for this class due this week. This in order so that I can pick up and get your text package to you in order for you to be able to review it before beginning the class....looking forward to seeing you in class!!!

Do you want to learn the "nuts n' bolts" of scuba diving. Do you want to be challenged mentally? Want to have a working knowledge of the effects of water on the human body and how it affects objects in the water, or how would you like to have advanced knowledge of recreational and enriched air dive tables and associated applications? Does having more knowledge of your gear and all of its components and how they actually operate and troubleshooting that gear and finally interest you, or would you like to have a better knowledge of the aquatic environment and the different underwater conditions you may encounter in your adventures as a scuba diver??

If your answer is YES!!!, SSI Science of Diving may be just the challenge you are looking for. SSI Science of Diving consists of five components:
1. Dive Physics
2. Dive Physiology
3. Decompression Theory
4. Your Total Dive System (TDS) and Components, and
5. The Aquatic Environment
and will be taught over a five class night span with a 100 question written final exam. This is an SSI Specialty certification class and one of the most challenging I have ever taken in my 30+ years as a diver and as a scuba instructor.

Enroll in one of the, if not the most challenging recreational scuba certification courses to be found...I have at least one student registered and looking for more to accept the challenge. I have plans of teaching this course over the next weeks to month. Course cost $200.00 plus tax for this incredible class. Well worth the investment and inexpensive in relation to the knowledge you will acquire.

Course is slated to begin October 6, 2015. Enrollment/registration required.
