Elijah always knew he wanted to serve. Since childhood he dreamed of military life, and when his uncle joined the Marines at random, it lit a fire that never went out. He spent the last year in the Delayed Entry Program, training weekly and immersing himself in military culture to prepare for what's ahead. Engineering class with Mr. Nieland was a highlight of high school, and English teacher Ms. Dunbar made a lasting impression when she told Elijah he should pursue writing, something that has stuck with him.
In July, Elijah ships out to begin his service as a Marine radio operator. With a guaranteed flight contract already in hand, his long-term plan is to earn his degree, enter Officer Candidate School, and become a Marine pilot. He loves this country deeply, and credits it with giving his immigrant parents everything. Serving is his way of giving back.
Congratulations, Elijah!
