Elijah always knew he wanted to serve. Since childhood he dreamed of military life, and when his uncle joined the Marines at random, it lit a fire that never went out. He spent the last year in the Delayed Entry Program, training weekly and immersing himself in military culture to prepare for what's ahead. Engineering class with Mr. Nieland was a highlight of high school, and English teacher Ms. Dunbar made a lasting impression when she told Elijah he should pursue writing, something that has stuck with him.

In July, Elijah ships out to begin his service as a Marine radio operator. With a guaranteed flight contract already in hand, his long-term plan is to earn his degree, enter Officer Candidate School, and become a Marine pilot. He loves this country deeply, and credits it with giving his immigrant parents everything. Serving is his way of giving back.

Congratulations, Elijah!

✨ CTE Highlight – Agriculture Education ✨

In today's spotlight, we're featuring Plant Science at North Kitsap High School. Starting toward the end of winter, students head into the greenhouse to clean, rearrange, and begin planting seeds β€” then spend the following months tending to their plants and monitoring growth. All of that care leads up to the NKHS FFA Plant Sale, where students open the greenhouse to the public, help customers find and select plants, and fulfill online preorders for pickup.

This course, which covers plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of plant production and harvesting across agronomic, forestry, and horticultural contexts, connects to the Agriculture, Food, & Natural Resources Career Cluster, helping students explore pathways in horticulture, agronomy, greenhouse management, and plant research.

Well Done North Kitsap High School Community!

A huge shout out to the students, the staff, and community of North Kitsap High School. North Kitsap School District was recognized by OSPI for the completion rate of the required grade level tasks within SchooLinks, which is the web based platform used for the High School and Beyond Plan. The High School and Beyond Plan is a non credit bearing, state graduation requirement for ALL students in the state of Washington. This was the first year that the SchooLinks was used for the High School and Beyond Plan. Students worked on the grade level required tasks during Advisory.

A huge shout out to the students being responsible on completing the required tasks, and to the staff for ensuring that these tasks were completed in a timely manner.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Well Done!

Congratulations to our 2026-2027 PSNS Work Study Students! This year's applicants consisted of over 300 students from the surrounding school districts. These students took initiative to create a federal resume to submit on USA Jobs. The students below were selected to interview with two current PSNS employees; there were 70 students selected from various school districts to interview for the PSNS Work Study Program. Out of the 70 students that were interviewed, the PSNS Work Study Program selected 25 students to be part of the 2026-2027 PSNS Work Study Student Cohort.

As a student in the PSNS Work Study Program, the students will begin working full time at PSNS during the summer of 2026; during the summer, they will begin their rotations through participating shops, receive a salary, and enhance their trade based skills. During Semester One of their senior year, they will return to North Kitsap High School to complete their remaining high school credits and requirements for high school graduation. For Semester Two of the 2026-2027 school year, these students will return to PSNS to continue the rotations through participating shops, receive a salary, and (hopefully) be offered a full time position post high school graduation.

Great job!
