A bucket full of Idlewild flowers to make bouquets for a celebration of our country’s best self in spite of our worst impulses. This annual gathering with my large extended family remains foundational to me and now to my children.

Last year’s onion failure has been redeemed. These WallaWalla’s are just gorgeous and I’m so happy.

So happy to be making more and more of dinner with ingredients straight out of the garden. Tonight a green salad and a spring-inspired creamy take on shakshuka.

Thanks to my oldest child for the photography and today’s strawberry harvest.

This area of our garden was once mostly grass. Over the last two years we have worked it into a cottage garden style herb garden where all the soft purples of flowering herbs are complimented with a variety of apricot and peach perennials. It’s been fun to watch this space transform.

These clients did an amazing job setting up their first vegetable and herb gardens! Over the last couple months I helped walk them through choosing locations, bed types, soil sourcing, irrigation design and plant choice (always plant what you like to eat!). Last week we planted starts and seeds together discussing care and expectations as we went. I will go back to their garden a couple times this summer to talk about the plant-tend-harvest cycle and assist in succession planting shorter-lived veggies. I’m so excited for their new garden adventure!

The Veggie Garden is ready for the second wave of planting! I pulled back the silage tarp on the in-ground planting area and finished re-attaching the drip lines to the water system (and repaired leaks and breaks with a little help from my middle child). Just two more timer run systems to review (in the cut flowers and perennial gardens) and we’ll be ready for the dry weather that has already started.
