Aikido is a Japanese martial art, dedicated to the art of managing conflict. Developed by Founder Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido focuses not on punching or kicking your opponent, but rather on using their energy to gain control. It is not a

static art, but places great emphases on motion and dynamics of movement. Aikido practice is strenuous, but not violent, demanding but not rough. It is manifested through smooth spiral movements with no sense of conflict between partners, with no winners or losers. There is no competition in Aikido, no matches, no sparring. Our focus is to derail the aggressors’ movement by unbalancing and redirecting their efforts. This philosophy makes aikido different. What makes Kitsap Aikido different is the leadership and personal commitment from sensei. They teach discipline, endurance, personal responsibility, confidence, positivity, self-assurance, respect, poise, martial form and growth at all levels. Both are kind but firm. Both are committed to “Tadashi”, doing the right thing from the heart. Kitsap Aikido is unique because Kitsap Aikido is a community. Unlike many dojos, once you become a member of Kitsap Aikido, you become part of a group of people that look out and care for each other both on and off the mat. Members’ ages range from five to 80+, with training history from 0 days to 30 years. All are welcome

Parents are encouraged to train as a family. Kitsap Aikido is a member dojo of the United States Aikido Federation (USAF), which is, in turn, affiliated with the International Aikido Federation and Aikikai World Headquarters in Japan.

And now for the portrait photos of our newest blackbelts. Matthew McCourry and James Frankiewicz. Matt and James would like to relay their thanks to everyone who has taught or trained with them over the many years it has taken them to earn the rank of shodan. (Photos taken after a vigorous class of mostly morotedori iriminage.)

Congratulations to our members James Frankiewicz (left) and Matthew McCourry (right) who received their shodan (1st degr...

Our humble apologies! We just discovered that the "Get In Touch" form on our website was not forwarding those messages to our business email, and was instead going to an inbox we did not even know we had. So if you used that form somewhat recently, we did not intend to ignore you! We will be going through the backlog and returning your messages shortly!

It's Tuesday 4/14. A lot of people in our local area have lost power, but we have power at the dojo. This time of year, even if we lost power, we would still be training, as we have enough daylight inside the dojo.
