After reading a portion of The Hunger Games, Mrs. Hercolini's classes created their own tributes! The students had to apply the characterization techniques to their original characters. They also had to write a scene depicting their character within the world of Panem! Students then participated in a gallery walk to view the newly created tributes! They peer reviewed and left 'glows' based on certain criteria. Students enjoyed being able to create and connect with literature!

Check out what Montco360 has been up to! Students are measuring volume, diameter, and radius using various precision tools: calipers (.001 in) , engineers scale (1/64 in), and (not shown) displacement method (10 ml: .2 ml graduated cylinder).

Students used their phones to take photos of the scale to zoom in and read to the nearest 1/64 more accurately.

Mr. Perich’s STEAM classes just wrapped up an exciting City Planners unit! Students worked collaboratively in groups to design and create their own cities while putting their math skills to work in a real-world context.

Throughout the project, students applied scale, angle measures, parallel and perpendicular lines, proportions, percentages, area, and measurement to bring their cities to life.

To wrap up the unit, each group presented their city to the class, explaining the mathematical thinking behind their designs, the decisions they made, and what made their city unique.

It was a great opportunity for students to collaborate, problem-solve, think creatively, and see how mathematics can be used to design the world around us!

Pottstown Middle School invites you to come to the second annual H.E.R.O.s Fall in Love with Literacy Night! This event is happening Tuesday October 20th from 5:30-7:00pm. There will be so much to do including: readings and discussions from local authors, a student authors’ showcase, read with Cooper the therapy puppy, crafts, games, prizes, gift card raffles, and a special visit from Mrs. Pennsylvania, Amy Tarnoviski! There will be food for cash purchase and so much more! This event is free for students and families to attend. Students must be accompanied by a responsible adult. So families come on out for a night full of fall themed literacy fun! 📚

We celebrated BIG today! Almost 700 Pottstown Middle School students reached our September attendance goal! 👏🏽🎉

Our students who reached the goal were surprised today with a MYSTERY PRIZE! 🎁👀

We are so proud of our students for showing up, staying committed, and making school attendance a priority. Every day counts, and our students are proving that being present matters!

Congratulations to all of our September winners! 🏆💜 Let’s keep the momentum going into October!

This week in Mrs Hercolini's class, students worked on self evaluation and reflection! Before they took their first skills test, they determined their confidence levels when asked "I can" statements related to plot, author's purpose, and setting!

This was really cool for their teacher to see how they thought they would do come test time.....and many of them did what they predicted or better!!!

Next step is to reevaluate after taking the test and receiving their scores. Students will look back on how they prepared and what they should continue to do or what they should change in order to be more successful for the next assessment.

This is how students become active learners in their education!!
