It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are on the horizon. Your family picture card will be beautiful, but if you incorrectly pluralize your last name, I can’t help but cringe when I open the mail.

The summer before senior year and senior year itself are special. Students recognize that soon life will change dramatically. They form new friendships, see experiences through a different lens, and continue to take strides toward independence.

At the same time, college applications are due, English 12 coursework is relentless, and opportunities for scholarships are being sought.

Help your student by creating a list of priorities. Jot down the known responsibilities for the fall. Add in deadlines so your student can develop a plan for tackling multiple obligations in a short period of time. Encourage your student to set up a meeting with their counselor, English teacher, or private tutor.
