Kat Thorpe is thrilled to be returning to her alma mater, OJR, to direct this spring’s production of Curtains. A recent graduate of Millersville University, Kat has worked with organizations including Ephrata Performing Arts Center, Hershey Area Playhouse, The Fulton Theatre, and Susquehanna Stage. She currently works with Upper Merion Performing Arts and is excited to bring her passion back to the OJR stage!

✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Mr. Joe Hawkins - Choreographer 💃🕺

If you love big musical numbers, classic Broadway style dancing, and high-energy ensemble performances, you are going to love what Mr. Joe Hawkins has created for "Curtains"! 🎭

Curtains is a hilarious musical comedy murder mystery set backstage during the opening night of a Broadway-bound show. When the terrible leading lady mysteriously drops dead onstage 😬, the entire cast and crew become suspects while a detective tries to solve the crime… all while trying to save the show!

But of course… it is Broadway. And Broadway means big production numbers.

Throughout the show you’ll see lively Golden Age inspired choreography, jazzy ensemble dancing, theatrical storytelling through movement, and big cast numbers that bring both "Curtains" the “show within the show” - "Robin Hood!" - to life on stage. 🏹🎶 Expect energy, comedy, and plenty of classic musical theatre flair!

"Curtains" is the fourth show Mr. Hawkins has choreographed at OJR, and 23rd musical for which he has been on the production team! He has choreographed musicals for Boyertown Area Senior High, Henderson High School (with his favorite director, Cait Hawkins), and Villanova Student Musical Theatre. When not working on a musical, Mr. Hawkins teaches Chemistry at OJR, and has his favorite job as DAD to Timmy, Declan, Keagan, and Violet!

He would like to thank the OJR Musical family for continuing to work hard and put forth an amazing performance. ✨

🎭 CAST SPOTLIGHT: Andrew Mulholland as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi 🔍

🕵️‍♂️ If you’re looking for the heart, humor, and brains of Curtains, look no further than senior Andrew Mulholland as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi!

🫆 Andrew has been a central figure of the OJR theatre program for four years. Also a member of Jazz Band and 7-Ups Show Choir, he currently serves as President of the Musical, and his leadership, positivity, and love for the stage have helped shape the program.

Audiences may remember Andrew bringing the house down last year as the hilariously over-the-top Chef Louis in "The Little Mermaid". He also had everyone cracking up as Theodore Roosevelt in "Newsies", proving he has a gift for big characters and perfect comedic timing. 🎭

Now he takes center stage as Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, the musical-theatre-loving detective at the center of "Curtains". When the terrible leading lady of a Broadway-bound show mysteriously drops dead on opening night, Cioffi is called in to solve the case. 🎶

Instead of shutting the show down, Cioffi insists the production continue so he can catch the killer hiding among the cast. With his sharp instincts and genuine love for stage, he guides the audience through every twist, clue, and show-stopping number. 🕺

🔍 Andrew’s warmth, humor, and natural leadership make him the perfect person to lead this mystery. Trust us… you’ll want to follow every clue with Lieutenant Cioffi. 🕵️‍♂️✨

🎭 OJRHS Senior Spotlight: Alia Booth‑Genthe as Georgia Hendricks 🌟

Alia Booth‑Genthe is bringing her trademark energy to the role of Georgia Hendricks in OJRHS Theatre Arts production of "Curtains" as the brilliant lyricist (and former stage performer) who wrote the show‑within‑the‑show, "Robbin’ Hood of the Old West!" ✍️

🎭 When the disastrous leading lady collapses (and keeps everyone quarantined), Georgia suddenly steps into the spotlight herself - juggling her own creative ambitions, tangled feelings with her ex‑husband and composing partner Aaron Fox, and the challenge of saving the musical they poured their hearts into. ♥️

💃🏻 Georgia is the creative brain behind the lyrics, a woman with the heart of someone who knows the show inside and out. Then is tasked to rescue the show and dust off her tap shoes - showing off her ability to sing and dance with confidence.

Alia’s performance pedigree includes Ursula in "The Little Mermaid", a wildly bold and scene‑stealing villainess; and she lit up "Newsies" as Medda Larkin, the charismatic vaudeville performer with big voice, big personality, and big heart. Alia always shines as powerful, unforgettable characters.

🎭 Curtains is a musical comedy… about a musical comedy! 🎶

🤠 The show-within-the-show is "Robbin Hood", an over-the-top production full of big numbers and a diva who won’t take direction.

💃🏻 When that diva suddenly dies on opening night, a detective must solve the murder before "Robbin Hood" can go on - leaving the cast and crew scrambling in true backstage chaos.

🎭 Staff Spotlight: Mary Ann Rutkowski 🎵

Musical theater brings together acting, dancing, and of course - music. 🎶 Helping students learn the score of a show is an important part of bringing a production like "Curtains" to life, and we’re glad to have Mary Ann Rutkowski serving as Music Director for this year’s OJR musical.

🎤 Mary Ann Rutkowski is thrilled to return for her second year as Music Director for the OJR high school musical. She holds a degree in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children/theatre and is an active singer, performer, voice teacher, and theatre educator.

She is on staff at Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown, where she directs and music directs many performance workshops through their education department, and she has also appeared onstage in several recent productions. In addition, she is on the voice and musical theatre faculty at the Community Music School in Trappe and teaches preschool and toddler classes at the Barn Yard in Collegeville.

🎼 We appreciate the many people who contribute their time and talents to support student theater at OJR and help make productions like "Curtains" possible. 🎭

🎭 Staff Spotlight: Jaycee Chernesky

Every production relies on people who can help bring the technical elements of a show to life. For OJR’s production of "Curtains", we were fortunate to welcome Jaycee Chernesky to the program.

Jaycee Chernesky is the kind of theater artist who can do it all. When a production needs someone who can solve problems, build the vision, and make the technical side of a show truly shine, Jaycee is the person you call. Their depth of experience and collaborative approach helped guide the technical side of the production while giving students a chance to learn from a true professional working in the field.

Jaycee Chernesky is a full-service technical theater provider who has designed and produced shows on local stages for 15 years. They are proud to provide a technical theater education while helping students elevate their productions to a more professional level. They would like to thank the fine folks of Owen J. Roberts - from the cast and crew who have worked tremendously hard to provide this show, to the adults (teachers, parents, administrators, and others) who lend a guiding, supportive hand so these brilliant kids can shine. As Jaycee reminds us, it truly takes a village. Art brings us together and helps us aspire to create a more beautiful and touching world together.

🌟🎭 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Rob Petro 🎭🌟

💫 Theater is always a team effort, and every production benefits from people who are willing to support the program and encourage students who want to be part of the magic behind the scenes. This year, Mr. Petro served as the Stage Crew Advisor.

🛠️ This is Mr. Petro’s second time serving as Stage Crew Advisor at OJR. He previously worked with the crews for The Diary of Anne Frank, Mamma Mia!, and Puffs. A former actor and director with lead roles in school and community theater, he enjoys supporting students from behind the scenes.

His favorite part of backstage work is seeing the magic behind the magic on stage and supporting a fantastic group of students who naturally ask, “How can I help?” Whether it’s sound, lights, or working in the wings, they are an integral part of live theater.

When not backstage, he teaches chemistry and enjoys forecasting the weather. He is the proud father of three daughters - two of whom are theater majors - and is grateful for the countless dedicated people - performers, crew members, designers, directors, parents, and volunteers - whose hard work and commitment make productions like this possible.

🕵️‍♂️ MEET THE DETECTIVE: LIEUTENANT FRANK CIOFFI 🎭

Forget Sherlock - this sleuth swaps a deerstalker hat for a 1950s suit and tap shoes. Lieutenant Frank Cioffi isn’t your typical detective. Called in to solve the mysterious murder of a Broadway star on opening night, he immediately locks the entire cast and crew inside the theatre to protect his crime scene - AND become a part of the company. 🎶

🔍🫆Frank is keeping his eye on the clues even as the cast’s chaos, backstage secrets, and brassy producer keep him guessing. To add another layer of intrigue, Frank is a huge lover of musical theatre. He can’t help being openly starstruck by every performer he meets, which makes the investigation a dream come true. 🎭✨

Things take an unexpected turn when Frank meets Niki Harris, the sweet ingenue, who adds a surprising twist to the case. ♥️🔍

Can Frank crack the case before the next show? Or will the ensemble’s antics keep him chasing red herrings forever?
