The ISE is collecting plastic film in partnership with the Potsdam Rotary Club! Check out three locations across campus---outside the ISE, first-floor Science Center, and by the mail room window. More coming soon!

Generally, tearable, soft plastics are accepted. If it crinkles, it can't be collected, including chip bags, candy bar wrappers, and frozen food bags. Specific signage at the collection boxes has clear examples of what is and isn't accepted. If you have any questions, email [email protected]!

Staff members are encouraged to bring plastic film from their household!

Hint: all types of bubble mailers, including Amazon mailers, are included! Just tear off the shipping label first.

To close out Food Waste Prevention Week, the ISE would like to share a fruit and veggie storage guide! Some produce should always be kept in fridge, on the counter, or in a dark pantry. The CU Pantry is taking a new vital step toward supporting student needs and access to everyday essentials! The Pantry is now running a free, limited-time clothing closet as colder weather creeps in. Preferential appointments are given to international graduate students, but other graduates and undergraduates may request an appointment.

First, view the inventory on this page and see if there is anything of interest to you. If so, make an appointment using the second QR code to try on the item and see if you want to take it home.

As Clarkson develops how to make this initiative permanent, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity! Clothing stock is still high, but appointments will not be open permanently. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions!

The ISE would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our friends over at SUNY Potsdam's Environmental Club!! Wednesday night, the club sent 10 students over to Clarkson to help clean up trash on the Munter Trail and by the Raquette River. The students from the EV-414 Forest Carbon course practiced forest measurement yesterday evening! Alongside instructor Alex French and forester Tom from Empire Forestry Consultants, students learned how to measure the height and diameter of trees using a series of different tools. The students will travel out to the Bowdish property in Lisbon this Saturday for official data collection.

Thank you to all who attended Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair at SUNY Potsdam last Friday! We are so grateful for all of the students, staff/faculty, and community members who planned this event. A special thanks go out to our presenters and exhibitors, many of whom came from an hour or more away. We are so appreciative of Dr. Stephen Bird for his return to Potsdam and for giving a delightful keynote address.

The ISE's second food hero nomination is LaRonda Ashlaw from the Servery at Clarkson! LaRonda is a Sodexo employee who greatly assists with food waste efforts across campus.

LaRonda is passionate about food waste because she wants to protect the planet and all of its inhabitants. LaRonda has two children, and she wants them to live long, healthy lives without worrying about the environmental impacts of climate change and the unnecessary waste of our natural resources. Reducing food waste is one way she can help create a healthier, more sustainable future for them.

LaRonda encourages everyone she meets to reduce food waste!
