Muslim Community School and Alim Academy MCS/AA is a private, non-profit, multi-sectarian educational system that serves the educational needs of students in grades Pre-K through 12 grade.

The Muslim Community School and Alim Academy (MCS/AA) is a private, non-profit educational system that serves the educational needs of students in grades PK (pre-kindergarten) through 12. The Muslim Community School consists of grades PK – 8, while Alim Academy serves as a college preparatory for students in grades 9 – 12. We also provide an Early Childhood Department of Montgomery County-licensed

pre-school program for young children ages 2 to 4. MCS/AA enjoys the benefit of being in Montgomery County, Maryland, which is a dynamic community with a strong educational public school district. Our educational system follows the requirements of the State of Maryland and closely follows the curriculum guidelines used in the Montgomery County public school system, including the textbooks that are used in this system. Coupled with our Islamic Education program of Quran, Islamic Studies, and Arabic, our educational program is designed to prepare students for success in this life and in the hereafter. Our school emphasizes a non-sectarian environment and welcomes diversity among our staff, faculty, and student populations. We welcome intrafaith collaborations that help to increase brotherhood and sisterhood among all Islamic traditions. Beginning with academic year 2013-14, the MCS/AA System is undergoing a dramatic transformation designed to create a superior academic and co-curricular environment that makes it the school of choice for Muslim students in the metro area. InshaAllah, we will focus on everything that has to do with teaching and learning with the intention of achieving excellence in all that we do:

- Continually focus on the goal of providing an education that meets—if not exceeds—what is provided in other educational systems.

- Provide skilled teachers and powerful administrators who can inspire and educate our students and serve as role models for them.

- Use collaborative teaching to enable teachers to focus on ensuring that each and every student succeeds.

- Maintain an optimum student-teacher ratio

- Through our Islamic Tarbiyah (development and training) program, teach our students how they should conduct themselves in various aspects that relate to their physical, educational, moral, and spiritual needs so that they grow and become useful parties in the society.

- Provide relevant and fun co-curricular activities that enable students to experience learning outside of the classroom and to develop strength and confidence in key areas.

As-Salaamu Alaikum MCS/AA Families,

Alhamdulillah, after months of planning, practicing, rehearsing, reviewing, creating, filming, writing, and basically, going above and beyond regular school work to compete in the DC MIST competitions, it all came to fruition last night in what turned out to be a HUGE night for MCS indeed! We could not be any more proud of our students who you will be happy to know represented their deen, their families, and their school within and above the high standards we hold them to. While we still wait to hear about 4th and 5th place awards, and will share them with you as we learn of them, it is important you understand exactly what happened last night on the campus of GWU in a crowd of about one thousand people - 700 of them the student competitors themselves.

Are you ready to hear this?

There were 62 total teams of Muslim students from different schools and homeschool groups who have been competing in all sorts of competitions since Friday evening and up until 5:30 PM yesterday. The number of winners from each school is tallied throughout the weekend. Winners are not just those who compete the best, although that is the biggest part of it, but also includes how the students behave, dress, interact with other teams, and follow MIST rules throughout the weekend. All of this is closely monitored by the many MIST volunteers and organizers who I have to say, run a very efficient, worthwhile, and as organized as possible program. Out of 62 competing teams, MCS ranked 3rd place due to the number of awards and recognitions we received!

Never in the history of MCS competing in MIST have we had so many winners. We are now qualified to compete in the MIST finals to be held in Toronto!! I know of 11 placements so far, but as I said, will wait to see the entire list of winners before sharing them with you.

So stay tuned for the details of what went down last night. We thank those parents and teachers who came out to the awards ceremony and shared in the celebration. The parents of the MIST competitors owe Sr. Mais, Sr. Shadi, alumni Sara Salimi and Naseeb Riaz, as well as those who provided transportation to and from IEC throughout the weekend, a huge thank you for caring for and supervising their children throughout this weekend, watching them like true hawks. We all owe students Bashier Baten and Mohammadreza Salimi our gratitude for organizing our team this year and helping them through the registration and competing process.

This email cannot end without mentioning the special award given last night to two of the 700 competitors (one girl and one boy) which we can't wait to share and that was the Most Influential Youth Award given yet again to another MCS student - Erfan Jahanparast! Congratulations to his parents and teachers who have shaped him into a role model Muslim. May he continue to influence in a way pleasing to Allah.
