Washington DC Taiwanese School WDCTS 華府台灣學校 strives to teach and promote Taiwanese & Mandarin languages and preserve our heritage.

Established in 1983, teaching Taiwanese, Mandarin & Japanese languages and preserving Taiwanese cultures have been the purpose of the school. The tradition of the school has always been small class size, frequent interactions between teachers/staff and parents/students, and providing diverse ways of learning. In addition to the regular classroom sections, the school also offers Taiwanese experien

ce to students and friends through folk art demonstrations, cultural performances, Taiwanese children's play, and so on. There are spring and fall semesters each year, which start in the middle of January and early September respectively. Presently, students aged 1.5 years old to adult are accepted. Washington DC Taiwanese School welcomes not only students from all fluency levels but also those who are interested in joining the school staff and activities.
由台灣人青少年才藝基金會 (TYAF, Taiwanese Youth Arts Foundation) 贊助，於 1983 年創校。台語學校溫暖的氣氛讓大家自然浸潤在台灣文化語言環境中並快樂的學習。秋季及春季班分別於九月第二個禮拜天及一月中開學。除了來學習外，更歡迎有志於文化傳承的鄉親們，一起來幫忙，加入校務和教學的行列！
學校特色：包括教授台灣的語言和文化，採小班制，家長、校方及老師間有高度的信賴和互動等。除了語文和才藝的課程外，學校還安排有節日的慶祝、團康活動和觀摩表演等等，每次大華府地區的台美人活動多可見到本校小朋友熱情活潑的表演。

華府台灣學校榮獲2025跨域創新教案殊榮

2025年12月16日

華府台灣學校教師團隊參加2025「全球華語鏈結」跨域創新教案競賽榮獲佳績！本校教案《漢字的故事：探索字形的由來》榮獲「佳作」殊榮，充分展現華府台灣學校在華語教學創新與課程設計上的專業實力。

得獎教案《漢字的故事：探索字形的由來》使用學校自編漢字教材《石虎漢字小書》，融合台灣保育動物石虎元素，讓海外學生感受台灣生態之美。教材主角由學生家長梁丰精心設計，融入台灣本土文化與生態保育觀念，提升教材的藝術性與趣味性。

比賽教學演示由中文一年級團隊參與，包括陳亞婕老師、傅怡萍老師、Harmony助教及學生熱情參與，在唐校長無條件支持下，為學生帶來一場生動、有趣的文化學習體驗。 競賽評審表示，本屆參賽作品整體水準優異，從教案設計理念、教學創新性、實施可行性及整體教學表現等多面向評選，最終選出得獎作品。

華府台灣學校的教案《漢字的故事：探索字形的由來》充分展現跨域創新教學及結合藝術的教材設計理念，深獲評審肯定。 華府台灣學校致力於深耕台灣本土文化教育，感謝所有為華語文教學投入心力的師生、助教及家長。學校將持續推動創新教學，為學生打造更生動、有趣的學習體驗。

Washington DC Taiwan School Receives 2025 Interdisciplinary & Innovative TCSL Teaching Plan Award

December 16, 2025

The Washington DC Taiwan School first-grade team received outstanding recognition in the 2025 Interdisciplinary & Innovative TCSL Teaching Plan Competition hosted by Fulbright Taiwan. The school’s lesson plan, “Stories of Chinese Characters: Exploring the Origins of Character Forms,” was selected as an Honorable Mention Award recipient, highlighting the school’s excellence in innovative Chinese language instruction and curriculum design.

The award-winning lesson plan features a teacher-designed and school-published instructional book, Leopard Cat Chinese Character Book, created specifically for Washington DC Taiwan School. The material incorporates Taiwan’s protected native species, the leopard cat, allowing students to experience the beauty of Taiwan’s ecology while learning Chinese characters. The main character was designed by Liang Feng, blending Taiwanese cultural identity with environmental conservation concepts and strengthening the educational value and student engagement of the learning materials.

The competition teaching demonstration was presented by the first-grade team, including Ms. YaChieh Chen, Ms. Yi-Ping Fu, Ms. Harmony, and participating students. With the full support of Principal Tang, the lesson provided students with a lively, engaging, and culturally enriching learning experience.

Washington DC Taiwan School remains committed to promoting Taiwanese culture and heritage education among overseas learners. The school extends its sincere appreciation to all teachers, teaching assistants, students, and parents who contributed to this project. The school will continue to advance innovative teaching practices that foster meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
