Today, we remember Col. Lawrence H. Bullis ’54—teacher, headmaster, soldier, and a member of the Bullis family whose leadership helped shape the school we know today.

After serving his country as an Army officer and paratrooper, Col. Bullis returned to Bullis in 1965, where he taught, coached, led, and ultimately served as Headmaster from 1980 to 1991. He approached every role with humility, a deep sense of responsibility, and an unwavering belief in the school’s mission. His steady leadership helped guide Bullis through an important period in its history and strengthened the foundation on which generations of students, faculty, and families have built.

We are grateful for his decades of service and for the enduring example of leadership, dedication, and quiet stewardship that he leaves behind.

Our heartfelt condolences are with the entire Bullis family and all who knew and loved Col. Bullis. His legacy will remain a lasting part of Bullis School.

We are working closely with the Bullis family to plan a memorial in celebration of Col. Bullis' life, and we will share additional information with our community as those arrangements are made.

Did you know our campus is home to an accredited arboretum? Last month, Bullis earned Level I Accreditation through ArbNet, a recognition that celebrates the care, variety, and educational value of the trees across our campus. This achievement reflects the ongoing work of our Botany Club and dedicated faculty mentors who help make our campus a living, learning landscape.

The Arboretum is more than a collection of trees—it’s an outdoor classroom, a place for discovery, and a reminder of the beauty growing all around us.

💎 Hidden Gems at Bullis | Part 1: A Solar System Hidden in Plain Sight

Did you know you can travel from the Sun to Pluto without ever leaving the Bullis campus?

A collaboration between Bullis Astronomy students and the BITlab, our half-mile, scale-model Solar System invites visitors of all ages to experience the vastness of space while taking a walk around campus. Even more remarkable? The distances between the planets reflect their positions in 1930—the year Bullis was founded.

It's officially summer! ☀️

Thank you, Bullis, for an amazing 2025–2026 school year filled with learning, growth, memories, and Bulldog spirit. We hope everyone has a wonderful, restful summer break, and we can't wait to see you back on campus in September.

Lower School Field Day was filled with excitement, laughter, and plenty of Bulldog spirit! Students enjoyed games, water activities, dancing, Italian ice, and a tug-of-war showdown between the 5th graders and teachers. Most importantly, it was a day full of fun, friendship, and unforgettable memories! ☀️💙💛

Our kindergarteners got their hands on their yearbooks and had a blast signing each other's books and sharing special memories from the year. With only two more days of school left, the excitement is building as we celebrate an incredible year together! 💙💛

Our Lower School students enjoyed a fun-filled visit from Mad Science! From exciting experiments to interactive demonstrations, students were amazed by all the hands-on science and discoveries. It was a great way to spark curiosity, laughter, and learning as we wrap up an incredible school year.
