The Poteet FFA recently hosted and competed in the Poteet High School BBQ Competition, with both teams earning state qualification. Students prepared at 5:30 a.m. this past Saturday Oct. 4

We hosted and participated in the Poteet HS BBQ Competition at Poteet High School today! Thank you to everyone who took the time out of their Saturday to come judge some BBQ!

These kids woke up early and were ready to go at 5:30 this morning!! Every single one of these amazing kids put in maximum effort, dedication, and worked together. Both teams are State Qualifying and I cannot wait to see what they do next!

Strawberry Smokers
Dessert- 3rd Place (Jeremiah Garcia)
Beans- 2nd Place (Gabby Ferreira)
Chicken- 2nd Place (Reese Orta)
Ribs- 4th Place (Max Serros)
Brisket- 3rd Place (Addison Cervantez)
STATE QUALIFYING- RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION

Sizzling Strawberries
Dessert- 5th Place (Alyssa Hernandez)
Beans- 3rd Place (Wylie Swan)
Chicken- 9th Place (Alle Zavala)
Ribs- 7th Place (Laci Cumpian)
Brisket- 6th Place (Liliana Garzes)
STATE QUALIFYING- 6th Placing

Edit to add: we have a lot of new cookers this year and some that switched their category. This was their very first bbq competition EVER, so needless to say, we are SUPER proud of each of these kids!

9:00am- dessert 🧁
10:30am- beans 🫘
12:00pm- chicken 🐓
1:30pm- ribs 🐖
3:00pm- brisket 🐄

2024-2025 HS BBQ State Championship!! These kids worked so hard and did an amazing job today! Our girl Reese places her chicken 3rd out of 114 teams at her very first state competition!!! Way to go, girl!! And a shout out to our only senior, Syrena, who is going to go on and amazing things with her life. She will be greatly missed, and her helping training the younger ones shows her amazing leadership and character.

A congratulations goes out to the Poteet Strawberry Smokers who also qualified for state today at the McMullen HS BBQ Cook Off and ended up 5th place overall! These are definitely some hard working and dedicated students that we have!

Congratulations to the Poteet Sizzling Strawberries for their RESERVE GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP today at the MacMullen HS BBQ Cook Off! Their hard work has paid off and they are officially qualified for state!

Congratulations to the Strawberry Smokers who competed at the HS State BBQ Competition this weekend, where they had 10th place ribs and 6th place brisket out of 98 teams!

A special shout out to our three seniors who competed in their very last high school bbq competition! Hannah, Briana, and Julia will be greatly missed and we wish each one the best of luck in all your future endeavors!
