In a competitive world which demands excellence in its workforce, in its quality of life, in its educational system for our young, and in its ability to be at the forefront of technological change, Portsmouth shines. Portsmouth is located on Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay which is centrally situated on the eastern seaboard between the major metropolitan areas of New York and Boston. Wherever you do not see the bay (we have 56 miles of shoreline), chances are you overlook a farm or pasture. Newport county is famous for its sailing and marine traditions (Naval War College, Naval Undersea Warfare Center). We are proud that many military families choose to call Portsmouth home during their Newport Naval Base assignments. An impressive community of management, engineers, and scientists also contribute to our highly skilled population.

As we prepare for the upcoming Portsmouth School Bond Referendum at the Statewide General Election, we are hosting a series of Community Engagement Meetings & Middle School Tours to showcase our current facilities, explain proposed improvements, and answer any questions you may have about the bond.

Community Engagement Sessions & Middle School Tours: Come tour Portsmouth Middle School, our highest-priority facility, to see current infrastructure gaps and learn about our vision for student success:

Thursday, September 17, 2026: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Tuesday, September 29, 2026: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Tuesday, October 27, 2026: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

During these sessions, we will highlight the key projects:

We hope all of our students, staff, and families had a fantastic first couple of days of school! It’s been so wonderful seeing classrooms full, smiles back in the hallways, and the new school year off to such a strong start.

We wish all of our Portsmouth students, teachers, staff, and families a safe and successful school year!

Officer Lemar with Comfort Dog Holly and Officer Silvia will be back in our schools helping keep students safe, building positive relationships, and serving as a familiar resource for students and staff throughout the year.

As students head back to the classroom, please remember to slow down, watch for pedestrians, and use extra caution around school zones and bus stops.
